Chapter 4
Amidst the haze of alcohol, June heard a familiar voice, snapping her back to some level of clarity.
She squinted through her alcohol-blurred, slightly reddened eyes and made out the figure standing before her, blurting out, “Kane?”
Her voice, clear and soothing like a spring breeze, reached his ears.
Kane’s eyes shimmered momentarily as if emotions were brewing beneath the surface. He was about to say something when June cut him off.
“Why the hell is this **e popping up in my hallucinations? Just my s**ty luck!” June grumbled, still clouded by the alcohol.
As her words hung in the air, Wilbur, who was trailing behind Kane, couldn’t suppress a laugh. But he promptly choked it back under Kane’s death stare.
Kane shifted his intense gaze from Wilbur back to June. His lips pressed into a thin line, his voice edged with barely contained anger. “June!
His grip on her wrist tightened suddenly, sending a sharp jolt of
in.
Kane’s furious expression and the piercing discomfort snapped June to full alertness. She looked down, murmuring, “So it’s not just a bad trip? Fantastic. It’s even worse!”
Every word she muttered reached Kane’s ears. He inhaled deeply, trying to keep his tone even. “Where are you staying? I’ll take you home” He tried not to focus on her drunken state.
June snapped to clearer thoughts at his question, scoffed dismissively, and yanked her hand away. “I don’t need your d**n ride!”
Kane stared at his now-empty hand, his gaze darkening further: “Do you realize that if I hadn’t stepped in, you would have ended up drinking that sp**ed wine?” His tone was firm, admitting no debate.
June froze, taken aback by this new information. She hadn’t planned to drink it, but that was hardly something she would admit to Kane. Right now, she just wanted to be as far from him as possible.
away
“And how is that any of your business? Remember, we’re divorced. My life, my decisions. You don’t get to interfere or give a d**n anymore!” she retorted sharply.

Kane’s gaze sharpened dangerously. “You-” he began, only to be cut off by a soothing voice from the doorway.
“June,” Dwayne called out gently.
Upon hearing it, June didn’t waste a moment. She breezed past Kane and flung herself into Dwayne’s arms. “What are you doing here?” she murmured.
Dwayne gently patted her back, smiling warmly. “Came to take you home.”
“And Luna too,” June added, nodding towards Luna, who was sprawled unconscious over the
bar.
“Got it.” Dwayne protected June with his body, giving his bodyguards a quick glance. They got the hint immediately and went to assist Luna.
“You’re the best,” June murmured affectionately, nestling comfortably against Dwayne.
Dwayne smiled indulgently and ruffled her hair. As he led her towards the door, he sent a frosty, hostile glare Kane’s way. That look was charged with animosity, like a silent challenge.
Kane watched June lean on Dwayne, her actions dripping with trust and reliance. His anger swelled, turning into a raging inferno inside him
Wilbur sidled up to him, curiosity lacing his tone. “Isn’t that Dwayne, the business prodigy from Asterwich? How the hell is your ex mixed up with him?”
Kane didn’t respond, his gaze locked on June, anger simmering. ‘She has been gone just two f**ng days. How’s she already so tight with Dwayne? What the hell is their deal?’ he wondered.
Wilbur caught the storm brewing in Kane’s eyes and blurted out in shock, “Kane? Are you f**ng mad?” He couldn’t believe his eyes. The always composed Kane, now visibly losing his cool over a woman.
