Chapter 16
June didn’t bother to engage in petty disputes. She simply got into her car and drove straight into the estate.
Dawn stood there, dumbfounded, as she watched the taillights of June’s car fading into the distance. She had always pegged June as nothing but a pauper and was shocked to see her breezing through these exclusive gates. “Is she here to clean someone’s house?” Dawn mused, puzzled and intrigued.
Thinking this, she felt an urgent need to follow and see for herself. Dawn quickly swiped her own access card and dashed in the direction June had gone, but despite her efforts, she couldn’t catch up and lost sight of her.
“I’ll be coming here often anyway. I’ll catch that little b**h one day!” Dawn muttered bitterly as she made her way toward Villa No. 13, where she stayed. Just as she was about to enter, the sound of a door opening stopped her in her tracks.
She looked over and saw that the noise was coming from Villa No. 8- the crown jewel of Lakeside Villas, a property so prestigious and sought after that money alone couldn’t guarantee its acquisition. Kane had tried to buy it at auction but ended up settling for Villa No. 13.
Whoever lived in Villa No. 8 was certainly no ordinary person. Dawn decided to introduce herself and foster a neighborly relationship, which could potentially aid Kane’s business
ventures.
With a calculated smile plastered on her face, Dawn briskly walked over to greet her new neighbors. However, her smile froze when she saw who emerged from the door.
Her eager grin swiftly morphed into a look of deep disgust. “Why, it’s you,” she spat out.
June walked past her to throw out the trash, completely ignoring Dawn. Her disregard infuriated Dawn, who hurried after June, refusing to back down.
“Are you mute? Didn’t you hear me talking? Is this how you treat your elders?” Dawn shouted, her voice dripping with scorn.
June responded with a smirk and a cu**g tw**le in her eye. Just as Dawn was about to catch up, June slammed the door shut with a loud bang.
“Ouch!” Dawn yelped, stepping back just in time to avoid a painful collision with the door. “F***ing hell, June, you snake-hearted b**h! It’s clear now, isn’t it? You’ve shown your true

colors now that you’re no longer my son’s problem. He should’ve seen this side of you. sooner!” Dawn seethed, her anger boiling over as she planted herself outside, hands on her hips.
“Get out here and apologize to me this instant, or I swear I won’t let this go. I know you’re in there. Stop hiding and face me!” Dawn continued to pound on the door, determined not to leave until June acknowledged her.
Although the house was superbly soundproofed, the banging at the door was so intense that June could still catch a hint of the noise. “**n it, can’t even watch my show in peace,” she grumbled under her breath.
Frustrated by the incessant racket that made it impossible to enjoy her drama, June languidly rose from the sofa. She grabbed her brother Dwayne’s top-of-the-line, 20-thousand-dollar noise-canceling headphones, slipped them on, and cranked up the volume of her TV series. ‘Perfect, now I can’t hear a d** thing, she thought, settling back into her cus**ed retreat.
Meanwhile, at the door, Dawn was cussing up a storm, her voice scratchy from shouting. When she got no reaction from June, her irritation boiled over. She delivered a furious kick to the door and spat out, “You shameless little b**h, just you wait!”
