A sharp pain seized Charlotte’s heart, and her eyes stung with the threat of tears. She took a deep breath, trying to case the suffocating ache in her chest.
But then Arthur’s cold, detached voice pierced the silence. “You schemed against me. Why should I let you off so easily?”
Charlotte’s face turned pale instantly. She suddenly recalled what had just happened at Hardwick Villa. Her lips trembled. “If that’s the case, why did you stop him from hitting me? If you hadn’t intervened, wouldn’t that have been the perfect revenge?”
Charlotte thought, “Arthur would have been satisfied if he had just let me get beaten black and blue.”
“You’re my wife,” Arthur said calmly. “Why would I allow anyone else to bully you?”
Arthur’s deep, magnetic voice was low and gentle, yet his words. sent shivers down Charlotte’s spine.
Arthur had let James lose control, watched Charlotte struggle helplessly, and only stepped in at the last moment to defuse the situation, making it seem like he was her only savior.

Arthur reached out, brushing a loose strand of Charlotte’s hair behind her car before gripping her chin firmly. His thumb grazed her soft lips. “This was just a small warning. Don’t do anything to displease me again, alright?”
Arthur’s gaze lingered on her lips, growing darker and more menacing by the second.
Charlotte was tensed, her body trembling uncontrollably as Arthur’s cold presence bore down on her. She seemed to finally understand why others described Arthur as ruthless.
Charlotte thought, “This is the man I fell for. Now, he towers over me with threats and manipulation, smiling faintly at my pale, panicked face like a devil.”
Arthur noticed Charlotte’s submissive demeanor and his frustration began to fade. He withdrew his hand and said in a detached tone, “I’ve contacted a team of international neurology experts and a top hypnosis specialist. They’ll help you recover your memories. Once you do, Charlotte, everything will fall back into place.”
With that, Arthur opened the door and stepped out.
