Chapter 187

“Conference room. Now!”
I sighed as I followed El through the living room to a literal conference room comprising a long table with chairs and a single telephone in the middle.
The way El stated her order, she sounded pissed and I hoped to the gods that The Watcher wasn’t pissed as well. El pressed some buttons and soon I heard the Watcher’s voice.
“Hello Kathryn.”
“Hello, Watcher.”
“I’m disappointed in you.”
I glanced at El who glared at me. “Why? What did I do?“.
“You seem to have forgotten our plan.”
“No. I did not.”
“Humor me then. What was our plan?”
“For me to get my inheritance and after that, we get revenge on all the people that hurt us.”
“Beautiful, but you seem to have forgotten that.”
My brows furrowed. “I–I don’t understand.”
“You hired lawyers, Ryn.”
“Yes. Theon wanted to help and he got lawyers that would get people to stop using my property and after I get marked, they will sue everyone.”
There was silence for a moment. “Is that the plan I laid out for you?”
My lips parted, and I stared at El who looked away. “I…I thought we were punishing them or something.”
“And you think going the legal route is enough punishment?” El asked in a tone that made me feel foolish.
“I’m sorry. I thought I was doing the right thing.

“You were doing the naive thing,” said the Watcher. “And I can promise you that this legal route will not go as expected.” Cold tremors tiptoed down my spine, but I forced myself to stay still. “So, what can I do to fix this?”
“We rarely talk these days and I hate it.” Sadie whined as she drove me through the upscale neighbourhood of Diamond city.
My stomach twisted in knots and I hated the fact that I knew something about her that I couldn’t even tell her.
“I hate it too.” I replied truthfully.

“You know what? We should plan a day where it’s just the two of us. I’m talking picnics, shopping, gossip, everything! I have much to tell you. I have a new crush and I think he likes me back but I don’t want to get too deep because my eighteenth birthday is coming, and that means I could potentially meet my mate and I am worried that my mate might be ugly and less handsome than this guy I like and imagine having to say no to this guy I like and then end up with an ugly mate and what if this mate of mine is not rich, like how am I supposed to introduce him to my parents. I mean my dad is kinda chill but my mom! My mom will eat him alive! And… and what if I don’t meet him at all and I am destined to be single for life!”
“Good gods! Calm down.” I gasped and Sadie took a long intake of breath. “You’re going to be okay.”
“But what if my mate thinks I am ugly and he rejects me for someone hotter? That would crush me.”
“What if your mate is hot, rich and kind? What if he likes you? Have you thought about that? You’re focusing on the wrong things, love.”
Sadie sighed. “You’re right.”
“Besides, with the cousins you have, no guy in his right mind would break your heart.”
Sadie giggled. “I can imagine Cousin Theon hunting him down.”
I frowned. “You don’t call him Uncle anymore.”
A moment of silence. “My other friends thought it was weird that I call my cousins ‘Uncle. so I have been actively changing that.”
“That’s good. I don’t think it’s weird though.”
“I know. That’s why you’re my best friend.”
Again, another pang of guilt stabbed through my heart.
Sadie stopped and parked in front of a boutique selling designer clothes. “My parents miss you. They’ve been meaning to see you.” She said as we entered the store.
I almost rolled my eyes. “Is that so?”
“Yeah. My Dad asks about you almost everyday. He wants you to come to dinner.” She said, starting to check through clothes.
“Oh. Uhm…can’t make it. This issue with my inheritance has got me busy.”
“Oh! That’s right. I’m so sorry for not asking. How’s that going?!”
“Slow. Too slow actually. Facing some bumps on the road especially now that your cousin, Miro is back and he all of a sudden sees us as enemies.”
Sadie frowned. “That’s why he’s my least favourite twin. He’s always been acting like a jerk.”
“He’s just being protective of you.”
Sadie rolled her eyes. “Whatever.” Then she picked a pink dress and gave it to a fitting room assistant.
“I’m so sorry about what’s happening with your inheritance,” Her frown brightened into a smile. “Good to know you’re rich like us! I wish I had seen Bessie’s face when she found out.”
She giggled.
My brows furrowed. “Speaking of, has anyone heard from her?”

Chapter 187
Sadie shook her head while similing. “After Billie got exposed on five TV, everyone turned on her on social media. She had to delete all her accounts and then she disappeared. No one has card from her since!”
“Wow.” I replied, slightly feeling bad for her. Then we shopped in silence while I wondered how to tell Sadie that her parents may have used her as an experiment.
But she has no special powers. Maybe they didn’t do it after all? But it still doesn’t erase the fact that the Cresswells may have been involved in seizing my inheritance and I will have to come for them.
How will Sadie feel?
This is bad.
After Sadie tried on some clothes and made her choices, I excused myself to use the restroom while she waited for her selections to be packaged.
The moment I came out, I paused in my tracks.
Standing some few feet away was none other than Bessie, but this time she had dyed her hair black and was in a heated argument with Sadie.
I don’t know why I stayed frozen watching them but then Bessie slapped Sadie hard and before I could rush to the scene, Sadie turned her head, her face etched in anger and then she pushed Bessie.
To my horror, Bessie did not stagger a few steps as expected, instead she flew several feet in the air before crashing into a rack of clothes.
My mouth dropped open as I looked at my best friend. Sadie’s expression went from anger to surprise and then she stared at her hands, before looking my way.
I looked between her and Bessie who stirred on the floor as several attendants went to her.
My best friend looked at me. Her face etched in fear. “I–I don’t know what happened. I’ve been feeling strange lately.”
Rushing to Sadie, I held her hands. “Hey, calm down. Breathe.”
Sadie followed my prompt as she inhaled through her nose and exhaled through her mouth.
Suddenly, the shop attendants were pushed back as Bessie rose to her feet and faced us. Her face twisted into her wolf form with sharp fangs and wolf hair.
She growled, her eyes, a glowing pair of green and as she ran towards us, I realized Sadie was in big trouble.
AUTHOR’S NOTE: I just realized authors on this platform do this thing where they end a book at one point and continue book 2 in the same space. Soooooo, let’s pretend Book 1 ended where Ryn shifted for the first time and this is Book 2. Love
