Healer Kwan sighed as he removed his stethoscope from his ear
That kind of sigh. I have heard it before when he announced that my mother wasn’t going to see the new year.
That sigh precedes really bad news.
“Lay it on me.” I said, already expecting the worst,
The man looked at me, his brown eyes sharp and emotionless. “I have slightly good news and bad news.”
“Give me the bad.”
“Your heart is literally weak which means your wolf has been permanently weakened and if you fight your brother, you will lose and could possibly suffer severe consequences.”
“I suspected as much.” I replied, not really fazed. “But what makes you think I’d lose?”
“You told me he flipped a car with one hand. Imagine what a single blow from that hand will do to you. Your wolf is not ready for that hit.”
Lground my jaw in silence for a moment. “What’s the slightly good news?”

and the elderly man rose to his feet putting some distance between us.
“You can become strong again but you will have to do some things you might not like.”
I looked at him, not liking where this was going. “What things?”
“There was a way you became exceptionally strong. You can go that route again.”
“No.” The word came out faster than I planned.
“You’re just taking her blood. It’s not like you’re killing her.”
“Then who would I be without it?!” I snapped. “I just discovered that my entire identity has been based on her. All that hard work, training and everything had been nothing without her blood. Do you know what that does to someone? To know you’re nothing withoiut a special boost?”
The Healer remained silent.
“There has to be a way to become strong without using her.” I stated, “I don’t want to use her like my father did.”
“If you don’t do this then you risk losing her to your brother whom we have no idea if he will treat her kindly once he takes her.”
I remained silent.
Before, I could easily tell what my twin could or could not do, but now? I had no idea who he was. Especially since he didn’t react as I’d expected to the mate bond.
“My Prince.” Kwan came back to sit in front of me. “Bear in mind that Miss Ashmore will be aware of her blood being taken. It’s not like we’re going to steal it? No one will be hurt.”

But that wasn’t what bothered me.
I knew Ryn would gladly tender her blood for me to become myself again. I just don’t know if I would like myself after that,
I don’t think I will.
“The fight is in five days. Find other alternatives.” I said, rising up.
“Your Highness!” Healer Kwan said with a little more desperation I paused, my back to him. “I like Miss Ashmore very much. I would not like to see her suffer. So if you can put aside your pride and make sure she’s safe, that would gladden my heart very much.”
Without a word, I left the hospital room and went back to the car waiting for me.
Healer Kwan had called my hesitation, pride. Was it pride really?
I thought about it and couldn’t come up with an answer. I don’t want it to be pride, but then again, the refusal to use her blood is putting a lot at stake.
I could lose her to my brother. I could end up not being able to mark her or even lead my army.
A lot could go wrong if I don’t get my strength back but then I could hate myself if I do this.
This is a fresh start to discover who I am and what I can do without a boost.
Isighed. Maybe I am being prideful.
By the time I got home the sun was already high in the sky and I found Ryn in the kitchen drinking a cup of coffee while staring into space. When she saw me, her eyes widened and a faint blush rosened her cheeks.
What is she shy about?
“Hi.” She said, looking away.
“Hi.” I replied, feeling guilt wrap its hand around my throat.
“You didn’t come back last night.”
“I had some things to attend to.”
Her brows creased in worry, then she took a step forward, her hands wringing together.
“I was thinking.” She said, licking her bottom lip. “What if you took my blood? Mr. Cresswell can whip up something for you
to use.”
What the actual fuck.
I ground my jaw in anger. “No.”
“Miro could hurt you.”
“I will fight fair and square.”
“But Miro has an advantage.”
“JUST STOP, RYN!”
Ryn jerked, taking a step back. I suddenly regretted my outburst Her eyes watered.

I took a step forward, and she took one back. “I’m…I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to…”
“I need to go to El to train.” Ryn cut me off. “At least if Miro cones for me, I’d be able to fight back.” She said, moving to storm past me.
1 gripped her arm, stopping her. She raised her burning gaze to nine. “It hurts me that you already believe I’d lose before the fight even begins.”
She swallowed, her gaze heavy with pain. “There’s a thin line between faith and delusion, Theon. If you think you’ll win against your brother with a weak wolf, then you’re more delusional than I thought.”
With that said, she yanked her arm from mine and stormed out of the kitchen and I was left in a storm of raging emotions that I am trying not to feel. I stared at Ryn’s half filled cup of coffee and as her last words played over and over in my head, one of those raging emotions possessed me.
In a flash, I grabbed the cup and threw it in a roar.
Hot liquid sloshed before the cup met its end on the wall and shattered all over the floor.
I panted in rage, feeling despair consume me from the inside out. Pain as old as time reared up its head and as much as I wanted to feel it and let it out, I just didn’t have that luxury.
So I took a deep, shaky breath and closed my eyes.
Just then, my phone rang, and I pulled it out of my pocket.
“Yes?” I answered a little too sharply.
“Your Highness, I found another option that is less terrible, but you still won’t like it.”
“Will it make me as strong as before?”
“Yes, but it will involve you eating raw meat and mistletoe again.
Fuck. I did it before and it made me stronger. I practically warned Miro against this.
I heaved a heavy sigh and put the phone back to my ear. “Count me in. Whatever it takes.”
