Chapter 182
RYN
My legs bounced restlessly as I sat opposite a bunch of people comprising two middle aged men, and a younger woman who could be in her thirties. All were dressed in suits and while one of the men scanned through a thick parchment in his hand, the other two conversed in soft whispers.
My restlessness increased, and as I waited for them to say something, I felt a hand softly land on my thigh. My fidgeting stopped and I turned my neck to look at Theon, feeling his thumb run little circles on my thigh.
“You okay?”
Instantly, I relaxed, my shoulders sagging. I gave a nod. “I’m just nervous.”
“You don’t need to be. These are some of the best attorneys in the kingdom. They are really good at their jobs.”
His words brought some sort of relief to me and I was glad that Theon was helping me take active steps towards getting back my inheritance and protecting it.
When the one holding the parchment dropped it and removed his glasses, I perked up in my seat. With a few murmurs to his delegates, they finally faced me.
“Miss Ashmore, we’ve reviewed the will and the accusations filed and I must admit we were skeptical about taking on a serious high profile case such as this.”
I glanced at Theon.
“However, since his Highness has shown great interest in the case we will take it on.”
I exhaled in relief, feeling an immense level of gratitude. “Thank you, Mr. Simmons.” I replied.
“Thank his Highness.” The man replied. “In the meantime, once we get back to the office, we will draft letters and send them to every person illegally occupying your parent’s properties. They will be asked to vacate immediately.”
I shared a glance with Theon again. “Well, can’t they be arrested I mean that’s stealing, right?”
The man sighed. “Yes it is, Miss Ashmore, but since you haven’t done the things required to claim your inheritance, you can’t take any legal actions to what you don’t own. In fact, the letters I am sending are by the authority of Prince Theon. It’s the best I can do for now.”
I nodded in understanding and after they left, I folded my legs on the couch and became lost in thought.
Although, I was just happy to be back in Theon’s arms, during our kissing and cuddling, Theon had tried to mark me but he discovered he was still not strong enough and that got him very upset.
That was when he made the call to the lawyers so I could have some form of control over the situation.
I just wish he’d stop blaming himself, and realize that I am with him because I genuinely want him.
Theon had seen the lawyers off earlier, now he was back and as he approached, his face was a blank slate. I can now say I have lived with Theon long enough to know that when his expression go blank, he is really going through a lot.
I need to distract him.
He stopped in front of me and I raised my head to look into his eyes. We stared at each other for a moment, each communicating the fact that we were both upset, then I opened my arms wide.

Chapter 182
“Upsies?”
A ghost of a smile appeared on Theon’s face, before he lowered Himself and lifted me up like I weighed nothing, I wrapped my legs around his waist and laid my head to rest on his firm shoulder. Then he moved.
“Do you sometimes wish you hadn’t given me a chance?” I suddenly asked, and Theon stiffened. I don’t know why I asked, I just know some part of my spirit is wounded, and it feels guilty for turning Theon’s life upside–down.
Maybe if I turned out to be a normal werewolf girl, my parents would still be alive, the King wouldn’t oppose my request to join the force and Theon will not currently be at loggerheads with his father.
“If the answer was yes, do you think I’d say it?”
“I think I’d expect you to see me as the big girl that I am and speak the truth nonetheless.”
Theon went silent for a while and I heard him open a door. Then he walked in some more before I was lowered onto the bed. Laying back I came in contact with his intense gaze and I was about to say something when he spoke.
“I regret nothing about you Kathryn Ashmore.”
The sound of my name on his lips made my stomach curl inward and experience that thing people call butterflies.
“I am happy you’re in my life. You make me a better man, and aside from what you do for me, you’re also a good person. You’re eager to help others in need. You’re selfless and you have this aura of light about you.”
Lswallowed, looking away, so he wouldn’t see how much his words damn near brought me to tears..
“I honestly think if there wasn’t something pure about you, Miro wouldn’t have tried to save you from his Dad fourteen years ago.”
Our eyes jammed again.
After our brief fling yesterday evening, I had shown him the video and Theon had sworn that he had no recollection of that day. When he got to the part where his father mentioned how my blood would be used for every Elite rich kid, he had gone silent and although he made no comments on that, I heard him leave the bed around midnight and he didn’t come back until the wee hours of the morning.
“You really think so?” My voice trembled.
“I know so.” Theon answered. “And now I think I understand why my Dad hated him so much.”
“What?” I eased myself up so I could rest my back against the pillows while he moved to lay beside me.
“I remember my father having a bandage around the same spot where Miro had bit him. It’s one of my earliest memories and I had wondered how he got it. When I asked him, he said his loyal dog turned rabid and bit him. I never knew he was speaking of Miro. Any other memory I have is of him being mean to my brother.”
That settled on me in a bad way. Could I really be the reason Miro got so much hate from his father?
“I didn’t tell you this so you could feel bad.” Theon said, drawing my attention back to him. “I’m telling you this so you can understand that our lives have been intertwined from the start. Fated to be, and no matter how much our parents‘ actions try to meddle in our lives, we will always find our way back to each other.”
I pondered on his words, letting it sink in and bring hope instead of despair. Then I eased back down and turned on my to face him. “Do you think that same fate will guide Miro back to us?”
“I believe so. He’s my twin and he’s your mate, something will pull him back.”

Chapter 182
“I hope so too.” I whispered, facing the ceiling.
After moments of silence, Theon spoke. “Ryn?”
“Yeah?”
“Is Adam your mate too?”
My brows furrowed. “No?” I replied, as if the question itself were ridiculous.
“Good.” Theon answered. Because I don’t think my generosity extends beyond my brother.”
An image of poor Adam facing two jealous brothers flashed through my mind and a chuckle rippled out of my throat.
“What?”
“Nothing.” I laughed.
Theon turned on his side, facing me. “Tell me, Bunny.”
That nickname made me stiff and I was about to speak when Theon jerked upright.
“What’s wrong?” I asked, sitting up too
“One of my men just told me I got an invitation delivered in my name.”
“And you have no idea who might have sent it”
Theon shook his head.
Immediately, I got out of bed. “Let’s go find out who it is then.”
Together, we left the bedroom and went down the stairs. Sitting on the centerpiece table in the midst of the living room, was
a red envelope embroidered with gold vines. Picking it up, Theon checked the seal on it.
“What is it?” I asked, curious.
“This seal is from the King’s signet ring.” Theon said and my pulse quickened.
Breaking it, Theon opened the envelope and brought out the card inside. As he scanned through, his face hardened, and his jaw tightened.
“What is it?” I whispered, not liking how Theon’s entire demeanor changed from warmth to ice.
“The King just invited me to his pool party.”
‘I frowned. “That’s odd considering you recently burned down his house.”
“Exactly. He wants me to know he’s not affected.”
I paused, studying his stiffness. “Will you go?”
Theon scoffed. “I most definitely will.”
“What if it’s a trap?”
“It’s not. My father doesn’t work that way.”
I was still confused. “So what? He wants you to come party with him like nothing happened? Or to see his new house?”
“Or rather his new possession.”
The bitterness with which Theon said it coupled with the confidence of the King put everything together in one frightening wave of shock. “Good gods!” I muttered, feeling short of breath. “Miro’s back!”
