Chapter 174
MIRO
As soon as we arrived in Theon’s room, we found him up and bent over, leaning against the foot of his bed.
“Oh my gods!” Ryn rushed in and cleared the hair out of his eyes “Hey, sit down” She commanded, and my brother obeyed.
I stood in the doorway, watching my pale brother breathe heavily and the girl who is slowly becoming the love of my life, dote over him.
“Why didn’t you call for anyone?” She asked with a bit of hardness in her tone as she poured a glass of water from a nearby nightstand. “You shouldn’t be up and moving at all!”
Theon sighed, accepting it from her before drinking it. Then he licked his lips.
“I tried but I can’t mindlink anyone.” He whispered and Ryn’s gaze softened before running a hand through his hair.
“How are you feeling?” She asked, lowering herself to her haunches.
“Exhausted?”
“You should rest.” I piped up and my brother slowly turned his head towards me. His eyes were bloodshot, but they held some kind of affection in them.
“Hey, Brother.” He smiled tiredly and all the animosity I had towards him disappeared.
How can I be angry at my twin after everything we’ve been through?
“Hi.” I whispered, then my eyes drifted to Ryn who sat beside him, watching me.
“Glad you’re alive.” Theon whispered, then he coughed and the way Ryn rubbed his back gently, it took everything within me not to curl my hands into fists.
“Likewise, Brother.” I forced a smile. “You should get some rest.”
Theon nodded, and as he struggled to rise to his feet, another flash of image occurred and this time, it was of Theon coming into a room after I just accidentally shattered one of father’s antique vases.
We were fourteen, and I was scared out of my mind.
Theon took one look at the mess and when he heard our father’s footsteps fast approaching, he turned to me, “Hurry go and hide, I’ll say it’s me.”
I didn’t hesitate. I hid in a corner and I heard our father come in, yell at Theon and hit him over and over again. Theon never made a sound, even as our father locked him outside in the cold as punishment.
I remember watching him wipe the blood from his nose, as he drew up his knees to his chest and hugged himself. Later that night, after I was sure father was deep asleep, I snuck out with a blanket and sat with him, covering us both.
“Why do you always protect me?” I asked.
“Because we are brother’s first before we are his sons.” His teeth chattered.
“One day, I’ll protect you too.” I replied. “And that’s a promise.”
A bitter smile crossed my face as I crossed the room towards him and with one of his arms around my shoulder, I helped

him up and back to the side of the bed.
Ryn hurriedly pulled back the covers and together, we helped Theon, get back in berl and rest.
1 took a step back, watching Ryn take his hand in hers. Then I realized, I can’t take Ryn from him. I
can’t be jealous. I can’t be selfish!
“Hey.” Theon whispered to her.
“Yes?” She leaned in, caressing his head.
“I was thinking..” he swallowed. “I was thinking when I get better, maybe I could take you to this new restaurant that opened not quite long.”
My heart hammered as I watched a small smile tug on Ryn’s lips.
“Are you asking me out on a date, Mr. Windermere?”
Theon smiled. “Please, don’t say no. My fragile heart can’t take it He cougheed again but this time it was fake and Ryn knew it because she giggled softly, sending a piercing arrow through my own heart.
“Yes, I’ll go on a date with you, your Highness but only because you have a fragile heart.”
“You’re too kind, Miss Ashmore.” My twin replied and I left the room quietly.
I think I need some time to adjust.
No. I need some air. So I left our penthouse and headed for the elevator.
“Miro!”
I stopped in my tracks and found it hard to turn around.
It’s hard to look in those siren eyes and think straight.
Next thing I knew Ryn was right in front of me. “Where are you going?” She queried.
“Out.” I clipped. “For some air.”
“The balcony is ther-”
“Ryn.” I cut in, looking into her defiant eyes. “I need space to think.”
Her stare hardened as she ground her jaw. “Fine. I understand.” She stepped away and just when she was about to pass by me, I gripped her arm and slammed her back against the wall.

with desire and before I knew it, we were kissing again with a much more fiery hunger this time. My hands Her eyes travelled up her slender waist, about to cup those breasts that haunt my dreams, but I stopped and ripped my mouth from
hers.
Ryn’s half lidded eyes went round in surprise.
“Does he know about us?”
Ryn swallowed. “I plan to tell him when he’s much stronger.”
I scoffed in reply. “Will that happen before or after your little date with my brother?!”

Her eyes hardened. “Is that jealousy I sense?”
“Answer my question. Ryn.”
“Why do you care?”
“Because you belong with me, Ryn!” I yelled, feeling that rage rise up again. “And I want to know which twin you’re choosing.”
It was Ryn’s turn to scoff. “Who says I want to choose? Can’t I be with you both?! It’s not a taboo!”
I took a step back, letting my eyes rake over her sinful body. “It’s either me or him.” I said, not sure why I am faltering on my resolve not to be selfish.
Ryn’s eyes narrowed in hurt, then her nose scrunched up in anger. “Well, don’t have any hopes. Because I wouldn’t choose the one who’s been treating me like crap since day one!”
With that said, she pushed me away, before storming back inside and when she slammed the door, my ears picked up on her crying.
I smiled bitterly.
Of course, just a few hours in and Miro screws everything up like he always does.
Exiting the building, I got on my bike and rode out of the estate.
Going at a high speed, I felt somewhat free like I could outrun how fast my memories were leaving me. At this point, I can’t remember much from my childhood. Now I can’t remember high school, or college or what my mother was like.
Then images of Ryn came to mind. Her, entering the office and I immediately thinking she must be a siren because women with beauty like her rarely exist.
I remember finding her climbing a wall without any safety in place. I remember her falling into my arms. Suddenly, the world spins, the earth becomes the sky and I crash down the road with my bike.
Pain seared through my body but I could barely stand now as the flashes became one long unending torture, as if someone was pressing the delete key from their phone gallery. I removed my helmet and flung it away.
Breathing hard, I closed my eyes and gripped my head until my pants became loud groans. I rolled onto my side and ‘managed to get onto my feet.
“Goddess, please make it stop.” I whispered, staggering to goddess–knows- where. “I can’t take it anymore.”
I got to a nearby car, barely seeing it beyond the constant flashes going through my mind and I must have hit it or something because the alarms went off, adding more chaos to the one in my head.
Gods! I need it to stop!
In anger, I brought my forearms down on the engine of the car, creating a massive dent and in the same breath I gripped it from the bottom and flipped it over.
To my surprise, the car somersaulted several times before coming to a stop in the distance.
I stared at my hands in awe, as the night became quiet again.
Staring blankly, I wondered how I got here and why I was flipping cars for no reason. Then something sharp stung my neck and when I grabbed and pulled it out, I realized it was a tranquilizer.

I looked around and saw men in uniform aiming their tranquilizing guns at me.
“Fire.” An elderly man who looked oddly familiar with his green eyes ordered and more tranqs pierced my system. I went down like a log, seeing darkness grow around my vision and just before my eyes closed, I saw the man’s stern face looking down at me.
“You’ll make the perfect soldier.” He said and then I was gone.
