I glanced at Ryn who had begun to sob and was wiping the snot off her face, with the back of her arm. Her gun hung slack in her hands and even though her body trembled in sobs, she looked every bit a fierce fighter. My heart squeezed when I saw how much she loved my brother and then a sudden jealousy enveloped me.

How I wish that were me.

Maybe if I had been the one to give Ryn a chance from the start, and had been nice to her, maybe….just maybe she would be

mine now.

Perhaps, the Moon Goddess tested me with her and because I treated her terribly, she decided to give Ryn to my brother and mock me with a fake mate bond so I would feel the loss of what could have been.

I shook my head in defeat.

Maybe If I let my brother go through the procedure, and he forgets her, then she can be with me. I immediately turned away from Ryn, hating the fact that I even had thoughts like that.

‘We are brothers first before we are his sons.’

Theon’s words echoed in my mind, fanning my guilt.

When I turned around again, I found Ryn watching me.

She ran towards me with tears in her eyes and it seemed like time came too slowly. I could see every tear on her beautiful face, her silver eyes like the sea on a winter morning.

“Listen to me.” I said urgently. “By going in there,” I pointed to the box opposite my twin, “Theon’s door will automatically open. Save him…..and…” I smiled bitterly. “Promise me you will try and save me too.”

Ryn began to shake her head, but I had no time.

“Promise me!”

Ryn swallowed, before nodding. “I promise.”

“Ten seconds left.” The voice warned and began to count down. “Ten.”

I smiled bitterly as I held Ryn’s face in both my hands and stared into her eyes. “I’m so in love with you, Ryn.”

She froze.

Chapter 169

“Nine.”

“I have been from the very first day I laid eyes on you.” I confessed.

“Eight.”

“And if you had not been recruited into the force, I would have found you and somehow asked you out.”

“Seven.”

Ryn blinked. “What?”

“I wish you were mine. I crave for you every single minute. In my thoughts, in my sleep, when I cook. I tried to fight it. I tried to hate you but I guess fate likes to play cruel. So please, forgive me for all the times I was an asshole and..” My gaze fell to her lips. “And forgive me for this.”

And then I captured her lips with mine.

“Five.”

Electric fireworks exploded in my head, and when Ryn held my face and kissed me back with just as much fervor, my knees went weak and it took everything within me not to falter on my decision.

“Four.”

Ibroke the kiss and without a second glance, I went to the box and placed my palm on it.

“Three.”

The sensor beeped and the door opened and then I went in.

Two.

Instantly, Theon’s door opened and before he could fall face first to the ground, Ryn and Adam rushed to hold him up.

“One.”

I smiled bitterly as the doors closed on me and I watched Adam and some other guy carry my

Ryn ran to my box and placed her palm on it.

Suddenly, a whoosh of wind occurred, coming from above and relaxed, inhaling the green gas released into the chamber.

I placed my palm just over where Ryn placed hers and smiled to put her at ease.

“I’m here for you.” She mouthed. “I’m not going anywhere.”

I nodded in understanding and suddenly, I felt extremely tired.

Leaning against the glass, I sank to the floor. The world around me began to feel dizzy. My wolf stirred and writhed and then I began to cough hard.

Breathing suddenly became hard and it seemed like all the air in the pod was slowly thinning.

A dull thud on the glass and I raised my head to look at Ryn.

Chapter 169

She had lowered herself to her haunches so she could be on eye level with me, and I could tell she was fighting tears.

I smiled, trying hard to keep my hand up and my eyes open.

“I’m here.” Ryn said, but her voice was

mute.

I nodded nonetheless, and forced myself to keep my eyes on her gorgeous face.

“Stay with me.” She sniffled and I nodded weakly, feeling my eyelids get heavier.

“Don’t forget me.” I muttered and she nodded in understanding

“I won’t.” She sobbed.

“Procedure complete.” The computerized voice said, and as my vision began to fade, I did my best to memorize Ryn’s face one last time before darkness took over.
