Chapter 168
MIRO
My father’s eyes hardened. “You’re making a very big mistake, Miro. If I don’t do this, your brother’s wolf will become very weak.”
I looked at him in disbelief, panic setting in. “Why?! What did you do to him?!”
“He’s gone to the brink of death too many times, Miro.” My father’s voice raised in urgency. “All that has taken,” He paused, his face etched in frustration, “it’s taken a toll on his wolf. When he wakes up, he won’t be as strong again unless you let me help him!”
Fuck. When will Theon ever have a break?
“And let me guess, your help means erasing his memory and turning him into a mindless soldier, right?” You’ve done that before, haven’t you?” I asked, cocking my head to the side. “You’ve done it to us as kids.”
His eyes rounded in surprise. “How did you know that?”
Shit. I was right.
“Four minutes remaining.”
Just then, a loud bang occured on the door.
BANG!
Then the scientists began to panic and run for a nearby elevator
“That’s pure titanium, there’s no way they can get in.” Dutton said, still aiming his gun
Another loud BANG and the titanium door fell off its hinges.
“Holy Goddess! Fuck!” The third security muttered under his breath as we watched several mutants rush into the space. Screams pierced the air as they attacked the scientists downstairs, preventing them from escaping.
I even witnessed the rest going to release the other mutants chained down for torture.
“Fuck. What do we do, your Majesty?” Dutton asked.
Before the King could answer, I felt the hairs on the back of my neck rise and when I looked back at the entrance, pure slammed through my body as two giant lycans, red in color, walked in on their hind legs.
“And I’ll be damned.” My father muttered in awe, watching them from a distance.
“What the fuck is that?!” I asked.
An angry sneer curled my father’s lips and then he began to take cautious steps back towards the exit that led to the roof. “That’s a Blood Wolf, son!”
“A what?!”
“Come with me. Save yourself!”
“And leave my brother?! I thought you said you’re not leaving without your sons.“,

My father’s gaze swept to Theon and then to the new wolves. Then his lips curled in a snarl. “I guess he’s in good hands”
I frowned, following his gaze and that’s when I saw Ryn standing next to those blood wolves, looking around the space like she was searching for something. She was dressed in leather from neck to feet and something about the way every inch hugged her curvaceous body did something to me.
I heard the shuttle of feet and saw my father, Dutton and the third security guy already getting into the elevator leading to the roof.
“Hey!” I ran after them. “What about Theon?!”
My father’s face remained set. “One box opens the other.” He said and then the elevator doors closed.
One door opens the other? What does that even mean?
“Three minutes remaining.” The computer voice said and I rushed to the stair landing where this room was located. “Hey!” I waved to Ryn on the opposite side and when she saw me, her eyes lit up and she waved back.
“Hurry.” I cupped my hands around my mouth and she nodded, before heading down the stairs.
Then I saw her talk to her masked friend who just ran her knife through a scientist’s neck and together they came towards where I was. To my pleasant surprise, Adam came from nowhere and followed behind them as they came up the stair landing leading to where I was.
The closer Ryn got, the harder my heart pounded and the urge to pull her into a hug and bury my face in her neck overwhelmed me but I stopped myself. Instead, I debriefed her and the others on what was going on.
“Two minutes remaning.”
“I’ll hack the computers and see if I can shut it down myself.” El said before proceeding to the computer setup.
Meanwhile Ryn, Adam and I went to the box to study how we could get Theon out in case El’s plan doesn’t work. Suddenly, Ryn stepped back and shot at the glass three times. Instantly Adam and I ducked as the bullets ricocheted off the walls.
“Ooops, sorry.” Ryn’s soft voice cracked and the urge to hug her again grew stronger by the minute. “Of course if the glass was breakable, you would have done it already.” She facepalmed herself. “I’m so scared for him.”
“Don’t worry, Ryn.” Adam said, pulling Ryn into a hug right before my eyes and even had the audacity to run his hand over her hair. “We’ll find a way to save him.”
“Get.Away. From. My. Girl!” I snapped at Adam via our mindlink
He stiffened before he raised his head and found my glare. “My apologies, your Highness. I had no idea.”
“Now, you do. So move away.”
Slowly, he pulled back from Ryn.
“One minute remaining.”
Shit!
“Maybe if we turn off the lights, that would help?” Ryn asked.
“Great idea.” Adam said.
“We don’t have that much time to find where the generator is. This place is huge.” I replied.

“I can try sir.” Adam stepped forward.
“I can go with him.” Ryn piped up.
“No!” I cut her off, then my voice softened when I saw how started she was. “Let him go. Theon needs you here.”
“Shit!” El exclaimed, getting all our attention.
“What is it?” I queried, approaching her.
“To stop the sequence, you need to enter the failsafe code. Do you know it?”
I realized I didn’t.
“Forty seconds.” The computerized voice said and I realized I was going to lose my brother. It’s not like he’s dying but then losing his memories, that will hurt Ryn badly.
I can’t have that.
One box opens the other.
“Thirty seconds.”
That’s when I saw it.
That’s when I finally understood my father’s cruel intentions.
