Chapter 140
MIRO
I used to hold Olive Verena in high esteem.
Even when he looked down on me, I expected such of his character but demanding a forced arrangement with Ryn because she has no family to fight for her? That’s just low.
“Something can definitely be arranged.” My father said with a glee that threw me off. I turned to look at him in disbelief and disgust and when he caught my stare, he glared at me, daring me to say otherwise.
Should I say something? Especially since I am trying to maintain a cover with his inner circle.
“I’ll fight you.” Theon suddenly said, grabbing all of our attention. “When I win, you spill everything.”
Olive scoffed. “When you win? You sound awfully confident that you would win this time.”
Theon made a ‘duh‘ look. “That’s because I will. I expect nothing less.”
Olive leaned back in his seat, rubbing his chin as he watched my brother. “So you’re really going to come out of retirement for that girl?” He asked. “Who is she to you?”
“None of your business.”
Is she your whore? Breeder? Mate? Oh, I forgot. You can’t have a mate. Not since the last one betrayed you.” He smiled but Theon simply watched him with an unbothered expression.
“Are you going to fight me or not?”
“I will.” Olive answered. “And when I win, I will take her with me and make her
my whore.”
Theon ground his jaw, which made the vein on the side of his temple pulse. “Deal.” He accepted before gulping down his glass of champagne before asking for a refill.
The tension dominating the table relatively cooled off but remained nonetheless, simmering in the background.
“I thought since you’re with Miss Moore now, you’d be more obliged to get rid of the girl.” My father stated, glaring at
Theon.
Theon took his time cutting through a piece of chicken before førking a piece into his mouth. “Just because I am…tied down doesn’t mean I have lost my morals. No matter how much I’m supposed to hate her, she’s still my responsibility.”
“You could easily get that responsibility off you by letting her go
“So you can win our bet? Just like that?” Theon countered with a hint of a smile. “Come on now, Papa. Don’t tell me you’re tired of a little opposition.”
My father’s face hardened but he didn’t reply.
“I think Miss. Ashmore should be informed of her involvement in this.” Mr. Cresswell said. “She’s a were–being, is she not? She has rights.”
Aunt Lydia sent him a glare.
“Leave that to me, Robert.” My father replied. “I’m sure with the way she’s leached on to my sons, she wouldn’t mind an Alpha Prince who actually desires her. Right, Olive?”

“Why not let’s call her over and find out?” Olive suggested and I gripped the fork in my hand a little too tightly.
“Great idea.” My father smiled before signalling to one of the nearby guards to bring Ryn.
I looked at Theon, who simply focused on his meal.
“Aren’t you worried?” I mindlinked him.
“Of what?”
“Ryn choosing Olive?”

Theon’s eyes met mine. “Why should I be worried about that? It’s really obvious you don’t know that girl.” He went back to his meal.
“You knew Elizabeth and she still betrayed you.”
Theon’s fork clattered onto his plate as he sent me a murderous glare.
“She’s not my woman. She’s free to do whatever the hell she wants.” He went back to his meal and I somehow felt a little bit disappointed. “BUT,” he continued, making me perk up. “if by some chance, her brain cells malfunction and she chooses Olive, I will personally drive some sense into her.”
“How?”
His eyes met mine again, carrying something dangerous that made even me feel uneasy. “That’s between Ryn and I. No need to concern yourself with that.”
I sighed as Ryn approached the high table. Her face, an expressionless mask but with the way her eyes moved, I could tell she was curious, and wary.
“Your Majesty.” She bowed to the King who barely acknowledged her greeting.
“Miss Ashmore,” He began. “You’re a lucky woman. Someone here of high caliber has taken an interest in your beauty and would love to know better.”

Ryn’s brows furrowed. “Who, your majesty?”
The Alpha King pointed to Olive seated on the other end of the table. “Alpha Prince of the South, Olive Verena.”
Ryn’s head turned to him.
“Come here.” Olive ordered and Ryn slowly went to his side. Meanwhile, Theon, who was seated next to Olive, continued eating like nothing was happening.
When Ryn got to Olive’s side, she bowed and paid him respect. He took her hand and kissed the back of it. “What’s your name, Beautiful?”
“Ryn Ashmore.”
“I heard you’re looking to be an Elite.”
“Yes, your Highness.”
“Why would a gorgeous thing like you concern yourself with such tedious work?”
Her brows furrowed. “To make my parents proud and to give women a chance in the military.”
“Hmm. How noble.” Olive said but anyone could tell in his voice that he was the least interested in what she had to say.

Chapter 140
Come, dit en my lap
Theon stopped chewing for a moment just as Ryn looked his way
“I’m sorry 1 can’t” She stuttered, and Theon continued chewing
“Why not?”
“I don’t make it a habit of sitting on strangers‘ laps.”
“But I am not a stranger. I am the Alpha Prince of the South and if you make me happy.” He stared at her body from head to toe in a sensual manner. “I can make you the most powerful woman of the South.”
Ryn blinked, and I had no idea why my heart thudded as I anticipated her response. Sure, my wolf may have mistakenly chosen her for a mate again but something about this whole situation made me uneasy. I don’t want her choosing someone else.
I don’t want her to leave.
Is she really as power–hungry as my father depicted her to be?
Ryn smiled. “I am flattered, your Highness.” She bowed again, “but I am afraid I have to turn down your
Olive frowned, not quite expecting the reply. “Why? Why are you afraid?”
Suddenly, her eyes lifted and clashed with mine before resting on Theon. “Because I belong to someone else.”
A stream of murmurs occurred on the table as I watched my father frown, matching her gaze to Theon. A shadow of a smile occurred on his face and when Ryn looked at me again, my wolf stirred. “Mine!” It growled, making every atom in my body
sing.
Her fucking candy scent wafted through my nostrils and I watched as Theon stiffened, his eyes flickering from blue to pitch black.
“So you have a mate or something?” Olive asked, his mood darkening like bad weather.
Ryn blinked as she looked at him. “Yes. I do.” She said, trying to revoke her hand but Olive held on, and I felt the urge to get up and rip his arms off her. But duty, gods–damned duty had me stuck.
“Who is he?”
“I don’t think you want to know.”
“Enough of this!” My father suddenly exclaimed, rising to his feet and planting his hands on the table. Thankfully, we were covered from the main gaze of the crowd.
“You,” He pointed at Ryn. “You said you wanted to be an Elite, right?”
“Yes, your majesty.” Her brows pulled together.
“Good. The first and foremost duty of an Elite is to secure the protection and prosperity of this kingdom and her packs. Our dear guest here has vital information pertaining to the prosperity and protection of this kingdom, but he won’t release it unless you say yes to him. So, what are you going to do?”
Silence settled on the table as Ryn blinked in thought. By now, Theon was frozen, glaring at our father and I was torn between blowing my cover or remaining silent.
“According to law,” Theon stated, breaking the silence as he dabbed his mouth with a napkin. “Elites–in–training are not permitted to participate in Elite duties unless signed off by the Commander,” His eyes strayed to me, or the Director.”

“Since what you are asking of Miss Ashmore is an Elite duty,” Theon continued, “which she is not yet. She has to seek permission from her superiors before she can even think of giving an answer.”
I have never seen my father turn so red before.
“Very well then.” He gave a strained smile. “Grant her permission to partake in this test.”
“No.”
His tone was curt, slicing through the tension with sharp malice
My father arched a brow. “No?”
Theon leaned back in his seat and folded his arms across his chest. “No, your majesty.” He bowed.
My father scoffed, before turning to me. “What do you say, son?
Everyone turned to me, their attention, a suffocating pressure on my chest.
“I am the Commander. A director cannot override my authority Theon said.

“He can if he’s been promoted.” My father said, turning back to me. Suddenly, the table broke into gasps and murmurs as the weight of my father’s words settled on my consciousness. “Congratulations, Miro. You just became the Commander of the Elites, what say you?”
