Chapter 44
Amanda, wait!” Stephen called out to her as he ran after Amanda on the busy streets of New York. She came down for lunch, and upon seeing Stephen’s face. Amanda tried her best to avoid him but unfortunately for her, he had noticed her presence and he was on a mission to talk to her no matter the consequences were. Still, with her cup of coffee in hand, Amanda walked away fast, trying to get to the office with her hopes of keeping Stephen out.
To Amanda’s surprise, Stephen jumped in front of Amanda, blocking her from walking further away from him, “What is it you actually want from me?” She asked him, angry, while looking at Stephen with an angry expression on her face.
“I was just informed by my secretary that your company-wait, your husband’s company-has refused to allow me to be an investor in the race course. Is that true?” He asked her this time, he sounded more like a wounded dog, expecting Amandáto pity him.
To Stephen’s surprise, he watched as Amanda rolled her eyes at him because she was no longer the gullible young woman who believed in all his lies; now she could see clearly through him, and she could tell Stephen’s difference was not as genuine as he made the whole world believe.
“So, what you’re saying is that an employee at my husband’s office contacted your people and informed them that they will not be accepting your application or your money to be an investor in my husband’s race course. Is that what you’re saying?” Amanda asked. Stephen nodded his head in agreement which caused Amanda to cross her hands over chest and tap her foot likely on the concrete floors of the walkway. “Well then, if that is the case then it means that you’re rejected and both my husband and the people working for him do nothing that you are fit to be an investor,” Amanda informed him quite rudely.
“So, you’re just going to let them refuse me a chance of being part of something this big?” Stephen, asked, as he was quite in disbelief that Amanda of people would not fall for the look of sadness on his face.
“Unfortunately for you, Stephen, I will have to agree to the decision that both my husband and his board of directors have made with regards to money coming from you and your reputation.” Amanda responded confidently, so much so that it looked as though her words could cut a line across stiffen’s heart.
“So you’re not even going to try to change his mind?” He asked her clearly in disbelief that Amanda was not about to put a good word on his defense.
Stephen watched as Amanda shook her head from side to side, indicating that she would not be intervening on Stephan’s. So, after all that we have been through, you would not care to help a lover?”
Hearing Stephen words, Amanda was quickly angered as she pointed her index finger and tapped Stephen repeatedly on his chest, wanting it known that she was in charge. “Now listen, I’m not your lover; I was your ex, and don’t you ever remind me of that horrible time that we were together?” She told him so stern that even Stephen was surprised by her behavior. Stephen had always known Amanda to be the sweet girl.
“So you’re just going to treat me like trash, well, then I guess I have to tell your husband that me and you were once lovers,” He threatened Amanda with a bright smile on his face as though he had won some kind of jackpot, but he stopped smiling as soon as he realized that Amanda looked at him as though he were delusional.
“Go ahead; my husband already knows who you are; in fact, it’s probably one of the many reasons he refuses to work with you,” Amanda said while smiling.
Wasting no time, Amanda walked past him, still with her coffee in hand. While walking away, she could feel her heart rate increasing as a heartbeat heavily against her ripage because, deep down, she knew very well that Ryland had no knowledge of who stiffen had been in her life, and she feared that if you were ever to find out, he would lose it completely. Amanda’s tips increased, and so she was safely in the confines of the building.
“Why do you look so out of breath, man?” She froze as she heard Ryland’s voice coming from behind her. She slowly turned around until they were facing each other, or more like she was looking up at him due to him being nearly seven feet tall.
Amanda had not expected Ryland to come down from his office and catch her like this, leaving her completely speechless and thinking of what lie she could use to keep him from knowing what she just witnessed before entering the world.

“It’s nothing” She responded by always smiling as if nothing was wrong. Unfortunately for Amanda, it seemed as though Ryland did not believe a single word of what she had said because not only was his eyebrow raise, but the look that he gave Amanda was evidence that he did not believe a single word that had come out of a mouth.
“Nothing really sounds hard to believe.” He responded before turning on his heel and walking in the opposite direction. Once you were out of sight, Amanda let out a deep breath.
Ryland had chosen to play the fool by pretending as though he had not seen the altercation that had occurred across the road. He had been watching Amanda converse auth the individual. There was no way that he could mistake the clothes that Amanda that morning on her way to get lunch.
Although Amanda was not like many other women who chose to dress seductively, she had a yellow shirt, and black pants, and there was definitely no way that he could mistake the swollen belly.
This morning Ryland had insisted that Amanda drive with him in the very same vehicle to work, but even though Amanda thought nothing of it, Ryland, on the other hand, could not understand himself. It was as if seeing the baby on the monitor the day before altered something about him, so the point where he felt soft
Ryland Please game control of yourself and make one wrong move, and she will have you in the centee of her hands,lll. Ryland thought to himself while trying to say cool.
Seeing Amanda converse so happily with whomever the stranger was on the sidewalk made him feel jealous that there was someone else getting her attention more than he was.
Ryland smiled at himself as an image of Amanda’s unborn child flashed before his face. He had been so happy that day that he had seen the child, which was on the screen.
Very quickly, it had come to Rylands attention that he had not known any of Amanda’s ex-lovers, nor did he know who the child’s father really was, and he was not about to ask for the fear that Amandamight question him regarding his sudden interest in the baby.
There was a knock on the door, Ryland then turned, he saw that it was one of his security men who had called earlier to discuss something serious.
“Yes, sir, and how may I help you?” The security personnel question? Ryland, who was battling with his concipus, because, whether he liked it or not, he did not want to be seen as a jealous husband,
“I called you to come into my office, but it’s fine. I got what I needed, so there’s no need for you to be here.” Ryland informed his security personnel who then nodded his head, then exited the office before shutting the door behind himself.
Ryland refused to allow Amanda to turn him and wrap him around her fingers any longer, so he wanted to go somewhere where he would be at peace with himself. Ryland turned before picking up his car keys and putting them in his pocket before exiting the office, and just as he was about to exit, he met Amanda in front of his door, with her hand raised as she was about to knock on the door.
“Oh! you’re going somewhere?” Amanda asked, and for a split second, she thought that he looked offended that she had asked him such a question.
“I’m going somewhere, do not wait up on me for dinner as I will be back late.” He responded before walking past Amanda and leaving her alone in front of his door. Amanda was unable to explain the nervous feeling she felt in her stomach as she watched Ryland disappear into the distance.
