Chapter 26
“I do not know why you were hiding from that man, but it must be something serious,” Amanda turned, only to see that it was Willow, smiling down at her. She had seen him intentionally knock into Ryland, thus allowing Amanda to make her great escape.
“What are you talking about?” She asked, playing dumb, but from the look of things, Willow was not falling for it. She watched as he crossed his hands over his chest until, finally, he threw his hands in the air as a sign of surrender.
“It’s fine if you do not want to talk about this, but if you need me I will be right here,” he told her, but just as he walked away. Willow stopped, only taking a few steps until he turned his attention back to Amnada.
“What?” she asked and wacthed as Willow dug his hands into his pocket and pulled out a piece of paper, which he handed to her.
“What is this?” she asked.
“Just take it,” he told her before forcefully placing the piece of paper in Amanda’s hands and then walking away from her. Amanda looked at the pieces of paper in her hand, and her pupils widened as she was quick to realize that Willow had written down a room number.
It quickly hit her that Willow had gone behind her back and gotten Ryland’s hotel room number. Amanda smiled nervously, as she did not know whether to smile or be nervous.
She deposited the glass she was polishing earlier on, and for some time she was lost in thought.
“I do not know what your deal is with this man, but if I were you, I would drop what I am doing and go after that man.” She quickly turned and saw that once again, it was Willow.
“What makes you think that I have anything to do with this man?” she asked, acting clueless.
“Amanda, you have only worked here for a month, and you have surpassed my working capabilities, and I have been working for these rich snobs for five years. Look, I will cover for you while you do what you need to do,” he told her. Unable to control herself, Amanda wrapped her arms around Willow to hug him.
Once she let go of him, she hurriedly walked towards the elevator with the piece of paper in her hand.
“Just be calm, Amanda; you can do this,” she encouraged herself. But every time she stared at the small screen in the elevator that indicated what floor she was on, Amnada began feeling nervous.
She was lost in thought, wondering why she felt the need to see him after he had fired her from the job she loved. There was no doubt in Amanda’s mind that Ryland hated her, but she was surprised to see that Ryland had paid her an extra month’s worth of pay to take care of herself and her baby.
Why are you doing this? She thought to herself. Perhaps she needed to clear the guilt that she had been feeling for the past month. She had lied to him after all.
The doors to the elevator opened, and she walked out. Just then, Amanda felt a sinking feeling in her stomach, and she fought the thought of turning away. The closer she got to the door, the more hands shook, and just then the door opened, and Amanda quickly hid behind a large pillar.

“Lovely place,” Elsa complimented Ryland as they walked into the penthouse apartment. He had spent nearly the entire meeting envisioning Amanda around every corner and behind every pillar. A month ago, he had sworn never to forgive her, and here he was, still thinking about a woman who had clearly lied to him. “Hello,” Elsa smiled as she waved her hands in front of Ryland.

“Thinking? Sure, you have been doing quite a lot of that lately, she said while still smiling. Ryland’s face reddened with embarrassment because he had not realized how obvious his lack of involvement in the conversation with Elsa was.
My apologies; I have been stressed out with work,” he half-lied.

“Oh, I see. How can you be stressed out when I have just invested a large amount into your business?” she asked, sounding seriously concerned.
“Which I appreciate,” Ryland responded, and he carefully stepped back from Elsa once he saw that she was getting too close.. The hunger in her eyes was intense, and just then, Ryland regretted bringing her all the way to his penthouse.
“I would like to see where your room is,” she asked, and only then did Ryland raise an eyebrow in her direction. There were many women like Elsa, and he knew how to get rid of them. Before Ryland could question her, she approached him and slowly lifted her hands to play with his tie. Ryland, however, was quick to gemove her hands from his tie, and Elsa looked stunned by his refusal to accept her advances.
“I think we should keep this strictly business,” he told her, not looking at her.
“I must say, this is a first,” she responded before stepping back from him. Just then, Ryland looked up at her, only to see Elsa smiling. She walked over to Ryland’s couch and retrieved her purse. “You are different-different in a nice way,” she said before blowing a kiss at him.
Ryland returned the gesture by smiling at her, and not long after that, he walked Elsa to the door, and she exited. Once the doors were shut, Ryland relaxed because the last thing he needed right now was an affair. His past had taught him that things were better left the way they were because moving or changing them might just bite him in the bottom.
Ryland turned to walk back to his room but stopped when he heard the door to his penthuse open. He thought it was Elsa, but to his surprise, it was none other than Amanda.
It had been a whole month since Ryland had set his eyes on Amanda, and here she was, standing in his penthouse.
“Hi,” Amanda greeted him in a low voice. He watched as she nervously played with her hands, but what irritated Ryland the most was seeing her swollen belly. It was that swollen Belly that had ruined things for him, and without even seeing the child, Ryland already hated him or her.
“So, I did not imagine you after all,” he said mockingly.
“Yes, I hid behind the pillar when I saw you walking towards me, she replied honestly. Her eyes followed Ryland as he sat at the edge of his coffee table while looking up at Amanda.
“What brings you to my penthouse without knocking?” he asked her. Ryland did not hide the ånger in his tone of voice as he addressed her.
“I…”
“What are the likes of you doing in such a prestigious hotel?” He asked, interrupting Amanda; it was only then that his eyes caught sight of something. He stood up from his coffee table and stopped right in front of her. Amanda swallowed the lump in her throat, as she did not know what Ryland was about to do to her.
She watched as he raised his hand to look at her name tag, and he smirked. “A waiter, really?” He laughed at her. This single action sent burning pain shooting through Amanda’s heart.
“And what is wrong with being a waiter?” she asked angrily.
“Nothing; it’s just funny that you went from being a well-paid PA and now you are working as a waiter,” he said while smiling.
“I am proud of the job I do, and if you’re trying to make me feel bad about it, then tough luck,” she responded, which was

enough to wipe the smile off Ryland’s face.
“You have no shame walking into my penthouse without permission, and you still think it wise to insult me with that thing.” he said while pointing at her growing bump.
“Don’t you ever call my child a thing!” she warned him. Ryland stepped back. Never before had he seen Amanda so passionate about something or someone.
“I think it is best that you leave my penthouse.”
“Yes, you are right. In fact, I feel foolish for even thinking of coming to your room. Who knows what a man like you have done to me?” She responded angrily, but just before she could walk away, Ryland grabbed hold of her arm.
“What did you say?” he questioned her, and Amanda had no plans to back down. She pulled her hand away, breaking Ryland’s grip on her.
“Is that not why you brought that blonde woman here, because men like you only sleep with women?”
“Enough! How dare you? “Ryland fired back.
“The truth hurts, does it now?” she taunted him back.
“Gte out!”

“I will do so,” she responded as she walked towards the exit. Ryland followed behind her, and once Amanda was out of the door, she tripped. Seeing what had happened, Ryland was quick to grab hold of Amanda and stop her from falling. Their lips were mere cetimeters from one another, and they were now lost in each other’s eyes.
“I want you to leave this place, and I never want to see you here again. I hope we understand this request.” He asked, and instead of answering verbally,Amnada simply nodded her head.
