Chapter 34

ALPHA DIMITRI

I had fixed a meeting for early this morning with an Alpha from a neighboring pack. When it came to alliances and helping my pack move further, I didn’t relent. I knew that it was my responsibility to step up and be Alpha.

The maids were helping me dress up when the door opened.

“Good morning, son.”

I turned to see my mum standing there with her usual smile on her face.

“Good morning, mother. I’m sure you had a good night’s rest.”

She nodded.

“I’m not here to pester you. I just wanted to ask how you are and how you’re doing. I mean, what do you have in mind?”

From the way she was asking me these questions, I couldn’t help but feel like she had something in mind. And most of the time, I didn’t like it.

“Mother, if you have something to say, get along with it. I don’t have the time to spare.”

She cleared her throat.

“Son, the other day, Violet’s parents came over and things seemed to be going well between the both of you. I was hoping that you’d decided so we could carry on with the wedding preparations.”

I sent the maids away.

“What wedding are you talking about, mother?”

“Don’t play dumb with me. You made a deal with me, you promised me you’d marry her.”

I should have known by now that she would do a thing like this. After that day, Violet had come over a few more times after that and I had refused to see her because showing up at my house uninvited like that was just annoying.

The fact that she felt that just because my mother was in support of her, then it meant that we would certainly get married was just sad.

If anything, the fact that my mother liked her was a turn–down for me because I never liked anything my mother liked. It was always like it was bad for my health.

This thing she was trying to do with Violet wouldn’t work and I knew from the time I met her.

“I never promised you anything. I only told you I’ll think about and give it a trial. You are the one who assumed that I liked her. You’re the one who assumed that I was interested and I was hot.”

“Then why were you nice to her? I mean, you looked like you were interested.”

Was she expecting me to behave like a rabid dog? I’m an Alpha.

“Because you asked me to be nice to her. I did it for you. Besides she was here with her parents. It’s not like I didn’t have any other choice but I just chose to be nice. You should be thankful, Mum, and not ask me a thousand questions.

I also did it because I wanted my mother to stay off Serena’s back and stop disturbing her and giving her a hard time Serena was pregnant for things like that and since she could stand up for herself, I was there for her

“Fine then, if you don’t want Violet. Tell me one lady that you want and I’ll make it work. A lady from a wealthy and worthy background would be the best fit so that you can start your life. I need grandchildren, son. I’m not getting any younger. I don’t want to die without the joy of having grandkids.”

Here we were with the blackmailing again. Why didn’t she look to Amelia for things like that? I didn’t have this time. I don’t know how many times I would have to tell my mother that I wasn’t interested in this topic.

“If you want grandchildren so bad, Serena is already carrying one for you. So, you’re going to have to wait for that one.”

Her mood turned sour so quickly.

“I forbid you from saying a thing like that. That girl can never carry my grandchild. Do you know how much bad luck she brings? She can’t be the one to bring my first grandchild. Do you know what she and her mother did to me?”

I wasn’t ready for this discussion right now. It was too early and I had an important meeting to catch up with.

“Mother, listen. I have a very important meeting today and I don’t have the time for this so if you would excuse me, I’ll be very happy.”

I left the room before she could say anything else which I was sure she was already rehearsing. Marry Violet? No way. Not only was I not interested in her, I wasn’t also interested in getting married to anyone. I had a mate already and a child in the way and adding a wife to that mix didn’t seem like the right thing to do so it’s best I just stayed like this.

“Dimitri! Get back here!”

No way in hell would I go back there to listen to her. Before I met with the Alpha outside the pack, I had one inside the pack with my elders so I went downstairs and made my way to the room.

“Good morning, Alpha.”

I took my seat at the head of the desk.

“Good morning. Let’s get straight to business. What’s going on?

“Alpha, we’ve received inside information about an impending attack on our pack by the Rogues. We have no idea when it’s going to be but we have to be ready. Protecting ourselves is paramount.”

Rogues? Last I checked, we hadn’t crossed each other’s territories.

“Why? What do they have against us?”

“They’ve always harbored hatred towards our pack. We’ve been noticing it for a while. Not only that, it seems that we have
