Byron’s eyes narrowed slightly. He lowered his head and looked at her for a few seconds before answering slowly. “There’s nothing special. I lived in the orphanage before I was seven years old. Later, I was adopted by the Booth family. In less than a few years, I returned to the orphanage.”
“Why?” Maeve was puzzled.

“I don’t like the feeling of depending on others for a living. Compared to the orphanage, I have more freedom.” Byron raised his hand to push away the loose hair on her cheek. His tone was slow and unhurried. “Besides, I don’t yearn for kinship as much as others. It makes no difference to me whether I have a family or where I live.”
A cold–blooded person could not even feel a trace of warmth toward his family, let alone outsiders who were not related to him.
