Ella almost wanted to applaud Maeve. The way she redirected Mrs. Morris‘ displeasure was brilliant.
As for Aeolian, her mood right now was far from great. Not only had her plan to trip up Maeve failed, but Maeve had also cleverly turned the tables on her. It was not hard to guess how Mrs. Morris and the others saw her at this moment.
There was no way she could admit to being the one who had damaged Wings of Love. Doing that would inevitably offend the Morris family as well. Her own scheme backfired and she found herself in a difficult situation.

Aeolian was the heiress of the Soar family. Out of respect for Gale and Zephyr, the Morris family could not afford to embarrass her in public. It would damage the ties between the two families.
Ella was about to speak, but Maeve grabbed her arm and stopped her. With a slight shake of her head, Maeve gestured for Ella to hold her tongue.
Considering Aeolian’s family standing, Maeve had not expected Jean to hold her accountable over this. Her goal was for Aeolian to admit she was wrong in front of everyone.
Maeve implied that Aeolian was ignorant about fashion design and narrow–minded. Aeolian did not directly deny it, but claimed it was because she was not wearing her contact lenses. This was practically agreeing with what Maeve had said.
The conversation eventually returned to Wings of Love. Maeve did not directly agree to Mrs. Morris’s request, but that she had already promised Ella priority to purchase it. The gift was effectively seen as being given by Ella after all.
Ella stared at Maeve in shock, and a deep sense of guilt quickly welled up in her heart.
She had indeed pressured Maeve earlier to accept Jean’s request. But she had not expected Maeve to still be willing to help her despite clearly being upset.
Coming from the Morris family, Ella had gotten used to the fleeting warmth of kinship. One moment, her family members were all smiles but they would be ready to stab her in the back in the next moment. It was more emotionally draining than any high–stakes office politics.
Ironically, it was Maeve, whom Ella was not related to, who was willing to help her selflessly.
Soon, the birthday bash came to an end, Maeve was feeling a little drained from being in the ballroom and decided to step out for some fresh air.
Ella quickly caught up with her. With guilt and regret, she said, “I’m sorry, Maeve. I didn’t mean to pressure you just now. just really want to show my worth and this is a good opportunity.”
Maeve looked at her expressionlessly and replied, “I know, I could tell.”

Maeve explained, her expression and tone still calm, I just feel that it would be worth letting go of the gown if it meant you’ll have the chance to change your fate. But this does not mean I’m not offended.

Ella could not hide her disappointment upon catching the undertone of Maeve distancing herself from her words. The really valued their friendship but she knew it was a lost cause.
Maeve felt it was a bit of a shame. She and Ella got along well, shared similar interests, and could have become doner fends over time.
Still, Maeve could not stand being deliberately put in a difficult position. If someone was going to do that, there was no need to keep them close. That was where she drew the line.
After Ella walked away, Maeve stood in the hallway for a while, enjoying the breeze. Just as she was double, a 1720 suddenly stepped in her way.

Maeve had not eaten dinner, yet she already felt sick to her stomach. Jacob’s behavior thoroughly grossed her out.
“No, thank you. If there’s nothing else, I’ll be leaving now,” Maeve said in a cold tone as she crossed her arms and gave a curt
nod.
With a playful grin on his face, Jacob quickly stepped in front of Maeve, blocking her path. “Come on, don’t be in such a rush to leave, the night is still young. It’ll be boring to spend it alone. It’s your first time around here, isn’t it? How about! show you around?” Jacob continued trying to make conversation.
Jacob assumed Maeve was no different from his ex–girlfriends, and that he could win her over with money. It was obvious that he had no respect for Maeve from his flirtatious tone.
Maeve was completely fed up. He was behaving so disrespectfully yet expected Maeve to humor him.
“Have you never seen a mirror in your life? Do you even know what you’re like? Why on earth would I owe you any respect? Now move, or I’m done being polite!‘ Maeve lashed out, her pretty face sharp with icy anger.
Jacob, used to being flattered, had never been spoken to this way before. Strangely, instead of being offended, he was odd. thrilled by it.
“You’re feisty, Ms. Reese! Come on, keep going, your insults are music to my ears.“Jacob grinned, grabbing for Maeve’s arm. Maeve was repulsed. She could not figure out how Jacob could be such a creep.
“Mr. Morris, please have some self–respect,” a familiar voice came from behind Jacob. That was when Maeve realized someone else was at the hallway as well.

It was Zephyr. He was dressed in a sleek deep–brown suit, complementing his chiseled features with an air of elegant maturity. His athletic build exuded a strong sense of security.
When Jacob noticed it was Zephyr, his expression flickered noticeably. He quickly greeted Zephyr.

“Ms. Reese is a friend of mine. If you’d like to take her out, shouldn’t you check with me first?” Zephyr said with a smile, but it did not reach his eyes.
“It’s all a misunderstanding. “Jacob said hastily, abandoning his flirtatious demeanor. With an awkward expression, he added, “I had no idea Ms. Reese was your girlfriend. I’m terribly sorry for the disturbance. I’ll be leaving now.”
Jacob walked quickly. He was afraid Zephyr would hold a grudge and complain to Harry.
Zephyr shifted his gaze to Maeve. He maintained a respectful distance but still spoke warmly, “I’m sorry, I meant to help you out of that situation, but it seems I ended up causing a misunderstanding instead.”
Maeve shook her head. “There’s no need for you to apologize. If anything, I should be thanking you. Without your help just now, I’m not sure how I would’ve gotten out of that situation,” Maeve said.
Zephyr nodded slightly in response.
Compared to their last two encounters, Zephyr’s attitude was noticeably more distant.
Maeve had an idea of the reason and felt even more apologetic. Her apology letter just did not seem sincere enough. Standing him up twice was simply inexcusable.
Perhaps it was because Zephyr had left such a good impression on her during their previous meetings that Maeve did not want him to see her as the kind of person who could not keep her word.
She was about to apologize when she was suddenly interrupted by a female voice calling out, “Zephyr,”
