Veronica immediately confronted Rosa after seeing her hostile expression toward Skylar. She was
ready for a verbal clash with Rosa
She had never lost at any arguments before.
Skylar glanced at Veronica, feeling warmth at her protectiveness. After living together for so long,
they had come to see each other as family.
“Ms. Reese, if you have any issues, please address them directly with me. There’s no need to
bother the elderly,” Skylar said with a blank expression.
Rosa looked at the two of them with a red face.
“If it weren’t for you constantly mistaking Ned for Joe and trying to get close to him repeatedly, I
wouldn’t bother you! I don’t have time to waste on you.
“Since you’re here now, I’ll make it clear. I hope you’ll stop meeting with Ned. Especially you,
Skylar. Your actions are seriously impacting us.”
Skylar replied calmly, “You know full well whether Ned is Joe. You’re fooling only yourself. It
doesn’t mean others are blind to the truth. Rosa, you’d better be careful in your actions!”
“You!” Rosa was livid, realizing she couldn’t win against them in the argument.
She didn’t want to make a scene and risk Joe seeing Skylar, so she ended the argument by saying,
“Anyway, he is Ned, my fiancé, and he has nothing to do with you!”
Then, she headed to a nearby department.
Skylar’s face remained calm, but Veronica scoffed, “She’s just deceiving herself.”
“Don’t let her upset you, Veronica. She knows the truth better than anyone,” Skylar replied.
“You’re right. There’s no point in getting angry over someone like her,” Veronica added.
They hadn’t expected to run into Rosa at the hospital.
Gloria was done with her tests soon. They would have to wait for the test results, most of which
would only be ready the next day. So, they decided to go home.
Both Veronica and Skylar tacitly decided not to mention the incident of running into Rosa to
Gloria.
It was just that fate had its way of working.
Just as Skylar and Gloria stepped out of the elevator, they ran into Joe as he was about to enter.
Skylar had never thought of seeing Joe there. When she first bumped into him previously, she

would feel surprised initially, but she had learned to compose herself.
However, this was Gloria’s first time seeing him in over three years. So, she froze, and her eyes
were filled with tears immediately as she softly murmured, “Joe…”
Her voice would melt anyone’s heart.
So, Skylar held onto Gloria gently.

When Joe saw Skylar, his gaze flickered to her lips briefly before being drawn to Gloria’s tearful voice calling him
They looked at each other, and he felt a pang in his chest. His instinct was to say, “You’ve got the wrong person,” but he couldn’t bring himself to say it.
“Grandma,” Skylar whispered.
Gloria quickly composed herself, wiping away her tears, and smiled at Joe.
“I hope I didn’t startle you. You’re just as handsome as you were three years ago. If you have time, come home. I’ll be waiting there for you, along with Skye.” 1
After speaking, she and Skylar walked out of the elevator together.
