Joe watched Skylar, who still looked a bit dazed, and simply replied, “Just passing by
“What a coincidence,” she remarked, the irony of their encounter hanging in the air. Anyone would find it hard to believe they weren’t meant to cross paths.
Joe leaned against his car, gazing at the lake before them, lost in thought. After a moment, he asked, “What are you doing here?”
“I was visiting an elder this morning. I’m just on my way back,” Skylar replied honestly.
Though the road was relatively empty, a few cars and people passed occasionally. It was surprising that both of them had chosen to stop there.
Skylar felt more confident now. Joe would surely remember their past together, and they would fall in love again.
Suddenly, she felt optimistic.
Joe couldn’t take his eyes off Skylar’s face.
“Why are you looking at me like that?” Skylar asked puzzled.
His stare was intense, and she couldn’t shake the feeling that he might have regained some
memories.
Joe finally looked away, his tone serious. “Are you trying to seduce me by sending me those. photos?”
So, he was staring at her because of the pictures she had sent earlier.
Skylar smiled, her mood brightening. “I didn’t edit the photos, so you can relax. If you want to say I’m trying to seduce you, that’s fine. Did those pictures spark any memories?”
In truth, she had forgotten when those two pictures were taken. Ever since they had gotten
together, they had been perfectly in sync in bed.
Sometimes, after finishing, they would chat if they still had the energy.
That day, after they finished, they managed to get dressed and took a couple of pictures together. Looking back, she thought they had been quite daring, although nothing inappropriate was
revealed.
It was simply a flirtatious atmosphere. Joe looked down at Skylar. “Aren’t you afraid I might want
to sleep with you?”
Skylar froze at Joe’s words, her heart racing. She hadn’t expected Joe to be só blunt about such matters even after losing his memory.
Just as she opened her mouth to respond, he continued in a cool voice, “Aren’t you afraid that if we sleep together, you might find out I’m not Joe7
That question had been airaling in his mind for days. He was well aware that he wanted to sleep with her. The urge to not on his desire was undeniable. However, he also understood why she was
drawn to him
The thought of being treated as a mere nubstitute was something he despised.
He wondered if he truly was Joe. Over the past couple of days, he had come across information suggesting that Joe had died, while other findings indicated his personality had changed drastically.
There were also medical explanations that suggested a person’s character could indeed change after experiencing amnesia.
Moreover, the identification he had at that time belonged to Ned.
If he truly was Joe, the coincidences were staggering. It felt as if someone had orchestrated everything, purposefully making him become Ned Sowle.
Or perhaps they wanted him to believe he was Joe
Skylar spoke firmly, “You’re not anyone else. You are Joe.”
“Are you so sure?” Joe asked, a smirk forming on his lips, amusement flickering in his eyes.
As their eyes met, he saw his own reflection in her gaze. Without a second thought, he leaned in closer. He captured her lips perfectly. They were cool and soft, igniting an irresistible urge within him to explore further.
