shylni was just about to drift off to sleep when he phone rang, displaying Steven’s name on the Bereen. It was 10:00 am in Jipsburg–hardly the hop he’d typically call, especially since he should he at work. If he was reaching out now, it hind to be argent.
“Steven?” she answered, her voice soft with curiosity.
“Matsy’s been beaten neatly to the point of incapacitation,” Steven said without preamble “She’s in the hospital now. The police have gathered enough evidence. This time, she won’t be able to
escape”
Skylar simply hummed in response.
“She’s getting what she deserves. One can’t run from karma forever. Skye, take good care of yourself. Don’t worry about what’s happening here Steven hesitated briefly before finally deciding not to share the unsettling vision that had flashed through his mind while at
hospital.

Skylar sensed a change in Steven’s tone and asked, “Steven, is there something else? Are you
worried about Maisy?”
She understood that, despite everything, Maisy was still his biological sister. After all, they were family, and it was natural for him to have such complex feelings.
They had grown up together and could sense each other’s emotional shifts. However, unlike them,
she felt nothing but hatred for Maisy.
Yet, she hadn’t let that hatred consume her entirely. While seeking justice, she also focused on
bettering her own life. She had people she cared about, people who mattered more than her desire
for vengeance.
Steven replied, “It’s nothing. I’m just worried about you being alone in Murida. I’ll visit you in a bit.
Don’t rush things with Joe. Your happiness and health are what matter most.”
“Oh, so you’re worried about me! Don’t worry. A few days ago, I met Joe at a party. He doesn’t seem
bothered by his identity as Joe, and I think he’s starting to trust me. I’m sure he’ll remember
everything,” Skylar said cheerfully.
Hearing her reassurances, Steven felt relieved. “That’s good to hear Joe is intelligent, so he’s probably already investigating his background. I have to get back to work now. You should get
some sleep.”
“Alright, goodnight, Steven.”
After Skylar ended the call, she didn’t go to sleep right away, She found herself unable to drift off.
Searching for Joe’s WhatsApp, she noticed the last correspondence was still the photo she had sent him earlier. Suddenly, she recalled the question he had asked when he left the party a few
days ago.
People’s nature was hard to change. Even after years of living an Ned in a foreign land, Joe’s
reserved nature remained intact.
Skylar had plenty of photos from their time together over three years ago.
Among them were pictures of them kissing in bed. However, she had avoided looking at or reminiscing about these sweet moments for the past three years. After rummaging through her gallery, she finally found two photos.
In the dim light, the atmosphere in the images sent her heart racing. “Perfect, these two photos will do!” she exclaimed, quickly hitting send.
“Let’s see if you can sleep tonight, Joe.” She knew he had been struggling with insomnia lately. If he was going to lose sleep, it might as well be over thoughts of their time together instead of worrying about the shadows of his past.
Perhaps if he thought about them enough, he might regain some memories.
Joe stepped out of the bathroom after showering. He had been away on business for the past few
days
Now, he finally had some time to himself. He glanced at his phone as he dried his hair with a towel. When he saw the two photos sent by Skylar, his expression darkened instantly.
He couldn’t pull his gaze away. Unable to control himself, he zoomed in on the photos. For at moment, he froze, his dark eyes now reflecting a hint of desire.
“She’s doing this on purpose,” he muttered, pressing his lips together.
