In his mind, he was giving Skylar an opportunity to prove herself by letting her come. There was no way he would pay her.
He thought that Skylar had rushed to Murida to take care of his mother just to get a share of the inheritance. But all of that belonged to him as Gloria’s son. Whether Skylar got a portion or not depended on his will.
“Even close relatives should keep accounts clear. Mr. Martin, you’re always generous with others, so if you don’t pay Skylar for her service, aren’t you worried people will laugh at you?” Caleb asked with a smirk.
To people like them, Edwin was really just like a sly fox.
Irritated by the taunt, Edwin quickly took out his phone. “Give me your account number, I’ll pay you right now!”
Caleb immediately provided Skylar’s bank account number.
True to his word, Edwin transferred a hundred thousand dollars over.
He thought it was more than enough. In Jipsburg, even hiring a highly reputable expert wouldn’t cost as much. Plus, Skylar was young. He gave her a hundred thousand because she was Joe’s wife. Otherwise, he wouldn’t want to pay a single cent.
After receiving the transfer notification, Caleb was speechless, while Skylar let out a cold laugh. It seemed like Edwin’s life was worth just a hundred thousand dollars.
“Let’s go and take a look,” Skylar said.
For the sake of Gloria and Joe, she decided to see what kind of supernatural element might be present. After all, if there truly was something affecting Edwin, it could have some influence on Joe as well.

The woman, still tipsy, nodded repeatedly. “Okay, I’ll come again tomorrow. Don’t overwork yourself today, make sure to get some rest.”
Edwin, flattered by her sweet words, beamed. “Okay, okay, I’ll definitely get some good rest.”
It was truly cringy for Skylar and Caleb.
Once the woman left, Edwin led them into the villa.
If standing outside the villa felt unsettling, stepping inside made it even worse. There was an intense discomfort that seeped through their bodies.
Then, Skylar asked, “How long have you been experiencing dreams of being haunted by women and children?”
Edwin just answered in a slur, “Just in the past month, I guess… But lately, it’s been happening more often. Sometimes, I can’t even tell if I’m dreaming or awake. Sometimes, I even feel like I’m suffocating.”
As he spoke, he touched his neck, a look of lingering fear on his face.
Even though he lived in a haze of alcohol and indulgence, when it came to facing death, he was more terrified than anyone.
Skylar nodded and then started inspecting the entire villa with Caleb.
