Chapter 1224
Skylar hadn’t expected to run into Ned again so soon, especially after their unexpected meeting at the hospital that morning.
“Oh my gosh!” Natalie exclaimed, staring intently at Ned. He looked just like Joe. Anyone who claimed they were different would have to deal with her. She hadn’t paid much attention in the café that day, but she had thought he was Joe.
However, Ned wasn’t supposed to know Skylar. Still, when he saw Claudio bothering her, he felt a surge of anger. It was clear he was protective of her, as he stepped forward without
hesitation and offered his assistance.
Claudio was taken aback when he spotted Ned, almost blurting out Joe’s name. He was aware of how much Ned resembled Joe. It had been all over the news. But he didn’t expect him to look this much like Joe. It was a bit unsettling.
However…
“You’re not developing a crush on her, are you? Mr. Sowle, she used to be Joe’s wife,” Claudio quickly pointed out.
“Watch your mouth,” Natalie shot back, sarcasm dripping from her words.
Skylar maintained her icy demeanor. She would always be Joe’s wife, no matter what. There was no need for Claudio to spread that around.
“Claudio, if you harass me again, I’ll call the police.”
Then she turned to Ned. “Thank you, Mr. Sowle. I know how to handle a scumbag.”
“Skylar, don’t push your luck!” Claudio was furious. He couldn’t believe she actually had the
nerve to call him a scumbag.
Ned narrowed his eyes and strode over to confront Claudio. “You’re Claudio Martin, right?” he
asked.
Claudio regarded Ned warily. “Yeah, that’s me. What do you want? You’re not really thinking of helping Skylar, are you? Don’t you worry about your fiancée getting jealous?”
Ned had come with his fiancée, Rosa. In this situation, he still defended Skylar.
This raised some suspicion about his true intentions. Men were rarely immune to attraction, and Skylar had always been the kind of woman who could capture both a man’s attention and heart.
Otherwise, Claudio wouldn’t still be thinking about her after all this time. However, Claudio was aware of Ned’s influence. Many people in Jipsburg had been vying to collaborate with him recently.
Chapter 1224
Just as Claudio mentioned Ned’s fiancée, Rosa appeared. She must have just come out of the restroom, wiping her hands with a napkin as she approached them.
“I heard this barbecue place is pretty popular, but isn’t it a bit too crowded?” she asked.
At first, Rosa didn’t see Skylar. She only noticed Ned talking to another handsome guy.
Whatever they were discussing seemed casual enough, probably something about the barbecue restaurant.
ん
Since arriving in Jipsburg, Rosa had realized that the Floan cuisine here was far superior to what she was used to back in Murida. The flavors in barbecues, stir–fried dishes, and fondues just never seemed quite right back in Murida.
But as she finished her sentence, Rosa sensed something was wrong with the atmosphere. Her gaze shifted, and out of the corner of her eyes, she finally noticed Skylar.
It made sense now why Ned, who rarely liked to engage in conversations, was suddenly chatting with someone. Skylar was the reason.
Rosa’s expression immediately turned cold.
It seemed like no matter where they went these days, they kept running into Skylar. Rosa began to wonder if Skylar was following them on purpose.
“Did something happen, Ned?” she asked him before turning to Skylar. “Ms. Sullivan, what a coincidence. We meet again.”
Skylar simply nodded. “Yes, quite the coincidence.”
Natalie, who had been observing, suddenly recalled who Rosa was. She had seen her the other day when she came into the café with Ned. The two had been quite close.
However, Natalie’s instincts told her something else. Rosa clearly didn’t like Skylar. There was a wary, almost defensive edge in the way Rosa regarded her.
