Chapter 1222
Ned said, “Thanks.”
Then, he put his phone away before walking away.
After he left, Janine glanced at Skylar and said, “No wonder you mistook him. I really thought he was Joe just now.”
Skylar had calmed down by then, her eyes lingering on the black profile picture in WhatsApp as she mused, “Yeah, they’re almost identical.”
But if it had just been one or two similar features, that could have been chalked up to coincidence, maybe fate. However, a nagging instinct she couldn’t shake made her feel Ned might actually be Joe, and that Joe could still be alive.
After getting the results from the checkup, it turned out that both Skylar and Janine were perfectly healthy. They only needed their annual checkups going forward.
Janine headed to work while Skylar went to meet Natalie. The film crew had the day off, so Natalie had time. They decided to meet for lunch at a barbecue place.
Unfortunately, when they arrived, the place was packed. Without a reservation, they had to
wait for a table.
While they were waiting for a table, Natalie felt a bit bored. “This is my fault. I knew this place was popular. If you come late, you have to wait unless you reserve in advance.”
“It’s fine. We’re not in a rush. We can wait.” Skylar glanced at the time.
It was 12:30 pm. She had breakfast late that morning after her health check–up, so she wasn’t
that hungry yet.
Natalie nodded. “Good point. You rarely come back, and you’d regret it if you missed trying their place’s barbecue.”
Before she could finish her sentence, her phone rang. Natalie glanced at the unfamiliar number and hesitated to pick it up.
After letting it ring out, the caller persistently rang back again. Skylar noticed and asked, ” Spam call?”
“Yeah, it seems like a harassment call. This person has been calling me for the past few days, trying to set up a meeting. She claims to be Mr. Powell’s fiancée,” Natalie said, her voice tinged with frustration.
Skylar was taken aback. “Mr. Powell’s fiancée? He’s engaged?”
It seemed strange for him to be engaged and still come to Jipsburg, especially if he had taken a role specifically to get close to Natalie. It was a puzzling situation that left her feeling uneasy.
