Chapter 1215
Occasionally, those passing by would cast curious glances toward Skylar in the gazebo. They probably wondered what she was doing there, resting and enjoying the scenery by herself.
Earlier, Lizzie had sent her a message saying she was heading back to the city with Muriel.
They had so much to talk about, and Lizzie even helped Muriel take a couple of days off. Thinking about Lizzie’s words, Skylar couldn’t help but smile. “I never expected Lizzie to have this side to her. She’s quite assertive.”
Just as she was about to stand up and head back, Janine called, “Skye, where are you? It’s getting dark, you should come back.”
Ever obedient, Skylar replied, “Okay, I’ll head back now.”
After putting her phone away in her windbreaker pocket, she looked up and saw Ned standing at the gazebo stairs.
Skylar froze. The hot spring resort was large, and she hadn’t expected to run into him here. Ned was gazing at her with an unreadable expression.
Their eyes met, and it felt as though everything around them had come to a halt.
Her heart raced. For a moment, she couldn’t tell if the person in front of her was Joe or Ned. Just then, she heard Rosa’s voice behind Ned. “Ned, there’s even a gazebo here. Let’s sit for a while.”
As soon as Rosa spoke, she noticed Skylar standing in the gazebo. The smile on her face instantly vanished. She found herself in disbelief over the coincidence.
It was so coincidental that she began to suspect that Skylar was deliberately following her and Ned.
Having just soaked in the hot springs and taken a shower, Skylar’s long hair fell over her shoulders. Even without makeup, she looked stunning. The night seemed to enhance her beauty, making everyone else appear dull in comparison.
Rosa was known for her beauty. But in front of Skylar, she felt overshadowed. It was hard for any man to resist the allure of someone as beautiful as Skylar.
Rosa became even more wary of her presence.
“Such a coincidence, Ms. Sullivan,” Rosa said, suppressing her displeasure as she initiated the greeting.
Yeah, it’s quite the coincidence. This gazebo has a great view of the scenery below. You two can sit here for a while. I’ll take my leave now,” Skylar replied, glancing at the two of them in matching gray athletic wear.
In her heart, she felt a flicker of disappointment. The man before her was not Joe.
After Skylar walked away, Rosa pulled her gaze back. Feeling unsettled, she spoke to Ned, Ned, do you think you might like someone like Ms. Sullivan? I can’t help but feel. overshadowed by her.”
Ned looked at Rosa, who had always been by his side. “You’re overthinking it. To me, she’s a
stranger.
“If she’s just a stranger, then why did you let her into our car? Ned, I’ve never asked for
you anything before, but this time I want to request something from you. If you care about me, don’t say another word to her, okay? I’ll feel jealous and hurt.”
With tears brimming in her eyes, Rosa looked up at him. She felt vulnerable as she made her
request.
Skylar made her increasingly uneasy, stirring feelings of anxiety within her. Especially with Ned’s demeanor, it seemed as if Skylar could take him away at any moment.
As Ned looked at Rosa, who devoted herself entirely to him, he recalled their memories together. His tone grew serious as he said, “Don’t think too much about it. We’re engaged, and we’ll be married in six months. No one can come between us.”
These words felt like a promise to Rosa.
If Rosa had heard these assurances before, she would have been deeply moved and would have believed them wholeheartedly. But now, she felt a flicker of doubt and suddenly hugged Ned tightly.
He stiffened in surprise.
Rosa sensed his body tense up but held on even tighter, nearly in tears as she said, “Ned, you know I only have you. You’re the most important person in my life. I can’t lose you, so I’ll remember every promise you made to me. You can’t abandon me, and don’t look at Skylar again. She’s just a passerby on this trip.”
She was just a passerby. She couldn’t let herself care, nor should she.
Ned felt the fabric of his shirt growing damp with her tears. His gaze darkened as he reassured her. “Don’t worry, she’s indeed just a passerby to me. You are my one and only.”
