Skylar replied simply, “Okay.”
Fortunately, the remainder of the journey went smoothly, with no signs of traffic congestion. However, the atmosphere in the car was tense and silent.
Ned seemed to have fallen asleep with his eyes closed, while Rosa stared out the window, her expression heavy with unspoken thoughts.
Skylar found herself distracted as she watched the road ahead. She was quite familiar with this route to the hot spring resort. She had been there several times before, once with Joe.
A sense of nostalgia washed over her. It felt like she was transported back to over three years
ago.
Just then, her phone rang. It was Jeremy. He rarely contacted her. Over the past three years, aside from the issues with the Hughes family, she had managed to resolve everything related
to them. Now that he was calling, it must be important.
She answered the call in a soft voice. “Mr. Hughes?”
“I didn’t attend the gala dinner last night because I had something to handle. I just saw the news and heard about the situation from Rowan. Do you want me to meet with him?” Jeremy ⚫ asked.
Skylar replied quietly, “No, they’re not the same person.”
Hearing this, Jeremy didn’t press further. “Alright.”
He then hung up.
As Skylar was about to put her phone back in her bag, Ned’s voice broke the silence. He asked, Do I resemble the Joe you mentioned?”
The only person in the car who could ask that was Ned. She didn’t hold back her response. Yes, you both look almost identical. That’s why I mistook you for him yesterday. I apologize if I caused any inconvenience to you or Ms. Reese,
Ned frowned again at the emotional distance in her words.
However, Rosa suddenly asked, “As far as I know, Joe has a fiancée. What is your relationship with him, Ms. Sullivan?”
Skylar was taken aback by the question. She could feel both Rosa and Ned watching her intently.
The details of her marriage with Joe were known only to a few close friends, so it was natural for them to be curious about her relationship with him.

“I would say we’re very good friends,” she replied.
Rosa blinked, clearly unconvinced. Being a woman herself, she could tell that when Skylar had seen Ned yesterday, her eyes had sparkled with intense emotions.
That kind of intensity could either indicate a secret crush or suggest that Skylar was Joe’s kept mistress. Such things were not uncommon.
After all, three years ago, Joe had been the CEO of the Martin Group. The temptations he faced would be greater than what Ned experienced, not lesser. Under such circumstances, it was hard to believe that anyone could remain faithful
The only exception would be if Joe and Ned shared similar personalities, both avoiding overly intimate relationships with others.
“I thought you liked Joe, but it turns out you’re just friends,” Rosa remarked with a teasing
smile.
Skylar’s expression darkened. Meanwhile, Ned continued to watch her silently.
Brian sped along the road, taking advantage of the good conditions. They soon arrived at the hot spring resort. Skylar got out of the car right at the entrance, deciding not to go in with them. She needed to wait for Janine and the others at the reception center.
The hot spring resort had arranged a large bus to transport their group. While waiting, Skylar took the opportunity to grab a snack.
After about half an hour, Janine arrived with the employees. They all headed to the villa they had reserved.
The two villas were adjacent to each other, with an open area in between designed for team- building events.
