Chapter 127
Everyone in the room was stunned. Cassie was equally shocked
“You little brat who was born without a mother! I’ll tear your mouth apart!” The wealthy lady was momentarily taken aback but instantly erupted in anger, standing up and charging at Zayn
Zayn wasn’t about to back down either. He stood tall, and when he approached, her intimidating demeanor faltered in the face of his presence.
“Getting all worked up over a couple of words?” Zayn smirked, “Did you stop to think that Cassie might be upset by what you said?”
“Why should what I said matter to you?” the wealthy lady scoffed, her voice dripping with disdain. “What are you even trying to do? Do you think you can aim for Cassie just because you’re a son of a mistress? Dream on!”
Zayn’s expression faltered for just a moment, but he quickly regained his composure.
Just then, Cassie stood up. All eyes turned to her, including the wealthy lady’s.
“Everyone, I’ve played along with you for a whole morning, and I’m getting a bit tired,” Cassie said, wiping her hands with a napkin and lowering her gaze, showing none of her earlier submissiveness. “I didn’t come here today just to chat with you all. I’ve heard that you often use me as a weapon to attack and mock my mother, and honestly, I thought ladies like you wouldn’t engage in such lowbrow interests.” The crowd visibly paled.
“Who would’ve thought?” Cassie’s eyes scanned the room. “My mother is gentle, kind, and easy to talk to, yet you bully her
like this?”
“Ms. Murphy, who said we bullied her?” the wealthy lady standing next to Zayn replied with annoyance.
“You just accused me of cheating, right?” Cassie locked eyes with her, her gaze fierce.
The woman stiffened, “Your grades have always been questionable. Don’t you realize how bad they used to be?”
“How I perform on my exams is my business; it has nothing to do with you. What about your husband and child’s scandals? Have they been resolved? Always looking to put down someone else’s kid?” Cassie’s eyes turned icier. “Ms. Brown, since you boldly slandered me, accusing me of cheating in public, I’ve decided to file a lawsuit against you. Expect a legal notice.”
With that, Cassie gave a small, respectful bow. “Thank you for your “advice” today, everyone. I hope when we meet on more formal occasions, you can act like real ladies.” She turned and walked away.
“Wow.” Zayn’clapped his hands, watching Cassie’s retreating figure.
“Unbelievable! How can you speak to your elders that way?”
“What’s so great about being the heir of the Murphy Group?”
“Mom, let’s go too.” The girl protected by Cassie didn’t look too happy. She gently tugged at her mother’s arm, her eyes wide with concern.
The wealthy lady, not one to cause drama, had been dragged into it time and again by, others.
Just now, as Anne defended her child so fiercely, she felt a wave of gratitude wash over her. Naturally, she wouldn’t align herself with those wealthy women to belittle Cassie any longer.
“Sure.” She gave her daughter a warm smile before picking up her things and leaving with her child. On their way out, they ran into Cassie, who was waiting for Anne to return.

Chapter 127
“Cassie, I’m really sorry I didn’t help you more back there,” the lady said, her face filled with regret.
Cassie replied with an indifferent expression, “It’s fine.“.
After a brief pause, she glanced at the girl. “You shouldn’t bring her to events like this in the future; it’s not suitable.”
The girl looked innocent, clearly well–protected by her parents since childhood. Seeing her reminded Cassie of herself at that age.
“Cassie, can we add each other on social media?” the girl mustered the courage to ask. “I played…I have some questions about studying that I’d like to ask you.”
Cassie hesitated for a moment but ultimately added her. “We can play together sometime,” the girl said, waving goodbye as she left with her mother.
As soon as they walked away, Zayn appeared.
“You didn’t have to do that; I could’ve handled it myself,” Cassie said.
Zayn grinned mischievously. “I just wanted you to owe me one.
“Sorry, you meddling in my business won’t make me feel like I owe you anything,” Cassie replied coolly.
Zayn leaned against a post, tilting his head to look at her. “I used to think you were cute, but I didn’t realize you could be this fierce.”
Cassie shot him a silent glance.
“By the way, that stuff on Mrs. Robinson’s phone you’re doing?” Zayn asked.
“What? You
gonna expose me?” Cassie teased.
“Of course not, I would never snitch on you,” Zayn laughed.
“I’m not worried.” Cassie shot him a sideways glance. “Your family doesn’t know you’re a top–notch hacker, right?”
Zayn raised an eyebrow slightly. “Are you threatening me?”
“Just a little payback. If you want to mess with me, I won’t make it easy for you either,” Cassie replied boldly.
“Wow, that’s ruthless,” Zayn said, his smile growing even wider.
“Cassie, why are you outside?” At that moment, Anne and Charlotte returned, and seeing Cassie standing beside Zayn, Charlotte went pale with shock.
“Mrs. Williams,” Cassie greeted politely, “I’m really sorry if I interrupted your little get–together.”
Charlotte frowned and instinctively looked at Zayn. “Did Zayn do something disrespectful?”
“It’s not Zayn’s fault,” Cassie said, her gaze steady and fearless. “Mrs. Williams, I’ve been sheltered by my family my whole life, so I might not know all the social rules. However, I overheard some pretty harsh comments about my mom today, and it really upset me. After you all left, a few ladies even got worse, so I had to set them straight. If I offended anyone…”
Cassie paused. “If I have offended anyone, I guess it’s just tit for tat, Mrs. Williams won’t mind.”
“You argued with them?” Anne asked, looking shocked.
“Ms. Anne Murphy didn’t argue. She was just explaining things,” Zayn chimed in.
Chapter 127
Charlotte looked like stre could burst a vein at Zayn.
“Cassie, there must be some misunderstanding…” Charlotte attempted to say something.
“Mrs. Williams, I’m an adult now. I might not grasp all the complexities of social interaction, but I definitely recognize mockery when I hear it. My
mom is gentle and can endure a lot, but I can’t stand to see her being mistreated,” Cassie said earnestly. “If your gatherings have more people like that, my mom and I won’t come.”
People in high society can be two–faced by nature, and Cassie’s straightforwardness was exceptionally rare. Charlotte was still in disbelief even after Cassie and Anne left.
“You thought you could control her as you pleased? Now you see she’s not so easy to handle! Zayn watched Cassie walk away, arm–in–arm with her mom; admiration shone in his eyes. He thought, ‘No wonder I like her. She is so cool!‘
Smack! In the midst of her anger, Charlotte slapped Zayn again. Blood trickled from the corner of his mouth.
“Do you think hitting me solves anything?” Zayn stepped forward.
Charlotte flinched and took a step back. “What do you want to do?”
“Charlotte, weren’t you always dreaming of having your son transform into a top executive so Dad could finally see his capabilities and promote him in the company? Zayn sneered. “I never cared about competing before. But now, I guess as an illegitimate child, I need to strive for the highest position to be worthy of a girl like Cassie.”
“Zayn!“/Charlotte shouted in anger.
“You’re getting mad a bit early, don’t you think? Let’s just wait and see,” Zayn said, brushing past her, and wiping the blood from his lip with his thumb.
He had heard countless insults throughout his life. Things like “bastard” and “illegitimate child” were the norm for him. But just now… Zayn’s fists clenched tightly.
That damned woman calling him that in front of Cassie made Zayn feel a mix of fear and embarrassment. He didn’t want to seem pathetic in front of a girl he liked…
This feeling shocked and unsettled him. Zayn was someone who used to share his tragic experiences to gain sympathy from various girls. But now, he found himself feeling that his past was… shameful in front of a girl. Something clicked in his mind, and he started to understand certain things better. It solidified his resolve.
“Why would you argue with them?” Anne nagged the entire way back. Cassie had never seen her mother like this before. The usually composed Anne was now on a roll, and Cassie loved it.
She had always heard people say how chatty their mother was and had envied it because Anne rarely spoke with her.
“I can’t just stand by and watch them bully you!” Cassie replied defiantly. “If I run into people like that again, I’ll argue with them!”
[
After a pause, Cassie shook her head, “Mom, you’ve got it wrong It’s not arguing; it’s me totally roasting them. I roast them and then just take off, not giving them a chance to retort.”
Anne was almost laughing at that. “Cassie, I know you care about me, but those are connections in high society. You can’t make enemies everywhere.”
Cassie linked her arm with Anne’s, gazing at the clear sky above the Williams Manor. “Mom, do you know why they’re so bothered that I, at such a young age, am labeled as the heir to the Murphy Group?” Cassie asked.
Anne looked at her, “Because their kids can’t do the same.”

Cassie added. “And do you know why they’re so fixated on the tide of heir?”
Anne lowered her gaze, “Because it’s all about power and wealth
“Exactly.” Cassic nodded. “The heir is basically the future tycoon the one who’ll control wealth and power. That’s me.” Anne was taken aback. Cassie turned to her and continued, “They’re just some rich wives; I’m the actual tycoon. So, Mom, it should be them who are afraid of me and respect me instead.”
