Chapter 123
The smile froze on Zella’s face.
Then she let out a bitter laugh, “You must be joking. Among the top ten students in our state, there are only two girls, and they barely made the list. I know both of them; they estimated their scores but did not meet their expectation, and even cried about it. If it’s not them and not my son, then who could it be.”
“Don’t worry? The results will be announced soon, and then everything will be clear,” Charlotte interjected with a smile.
Zella still had that arrogant look on her face.
She glanced over in Cassie’s direction.
Cassie was busy replying to a message from the company’s tech staff.
Seeing this, Zella chuckled, “Cassie seems pretty calm, not nervous at all, just playing on her phone.”
“Mrs. Zamora, I know what’s happening, so don’t worry about me.” Cassie glanced her way.
Zella slightly rolled her eyes and muttered, “What could someone with scores like you know?”
In the past, Zella also had a liking for Lucas.
Before she married, she thought Lucas as her childhood friend who grew up together and was well–matched, they had the best chance of being together.
But who can imagine that.
Lucas quietly announced that he was marrying an actress three years older than him!
Since then, she especially looked down on Anne.
Later on, because of Cassie’s lack of success and the media exposing scandalous stories, she finally felt a bit satisfied.
Zella thought, ‘An actress is just an actress, their lineage isn’t pure.
‘So it’s no wonder their child turned out to be a fool!‘
“Hey, since Cassie is coming over and our families are checking the scores together, why don’t we invite all the kids over too?” Zella was sure that the child who scored 1300 points was her son, so she decided to show off.
“Sure, I’ll have the kitchen make some snacks that the kids will love,” Charlotte happily agreed.
Even though the other ladies‘ children weren’t as outstanding as Zella’s son, they believed they surely outperformed the heir of the Murphy Group.
These ladies came from big families.
Their kids were impressive, but it was still unclear if they could claim the heir position.
Cassie seemed useless but was made the heir early on, so it was only natural for them to feel jealous and resentful.
That’s why they like to get together to mock Cassie and make fun of Anne.
“Anne, you don’t mind, do you?” Zella asked Anne with a smile.
“Of course not?” Anne answered.

“Yeah, my mom loves having me hang out with kids my age,” Cassie added.
Couldn’t she see what this wealthy lady was thinking?
Zella and a few others exchanged looks, then quickly left the greenhouse to call their kids.

“Cassie has changed a lot since before, she’s much more cheerful now,” Charlotte observed Cassie with a warm smile.
“That’s thanks to my mom. She’s been taking me out a lot lately, meeting new people has helped me open up,” Cassie replied.

“When did you and your daughter get along so well?” A wealthy lady sitting beside Charlotte asked curiously, “I heard you two barely talked before.”
Anne glanced at the lady, “Mrs. Robinson, I don’t quite understand what you mean. Isn’t it normal to have a good relationship with my daughter? Maybe you should ignore those gossipy rumors.”
Casey Robinson’s smile was a little awkward.
But she didn’t dare to offensive Anne.
Then she smiled and changed the topic.
“By the way, have your kids been playing that game lately?”
While they were chatting, a wealthy lady suddenly frowned and spoke.
“You mean that bloody game?” Casey said disdainfully, “What’s it called again, After School?”
The lady replied, “Yes.”
“My daughter plays every day, and it scares me so much!” Casey patted her chest. “I don’t even know which company made it. I want to talk to the publishers. Why make such a scary game?
Anne lowered her eyes and said calmly, “Murphy Group published it.”
“What?” Casey was shocked. “Your company made it?”
“Yes.” Anne nodded, “I only heard my husband mention it. I didn’t expect it to be so popular that your kids are playing it too.”
“Why would they make such a scary game?“Ms. Johnson asked.
“I thought your company, Murphy Group, wasn’t strong in this area?” Charlotte looked at Anne, “Why is there suddenly so much hype?”
“Have you been following this too?” Anne asked.
Charlotte’s expression froze, and then she took a sip of coffee. “Our family is also working on this area. After School become so popular recently that it was even mentioned in a company meeting.”
“I saw the download numbers and sales rankings in the app store. You must have made quite chimed in.
“I have no idea about that,” Anne shook her head.
Anne thought, ‘At least the topic had shifted away from Cassie.

“No.” Anne shook her head again. “My husband said a group of very young people approached us. They shared the same business philosophy as Murphy Group, and just like that, they signed a long–term partnership.”
“I see, your Murphy Group is lucky. The internet ventures weren’t succeeding before, and now one game has turned everything around,” Charlotte remarked with a smile.
Anne pretended not to notice the sarcasm and smiled, and she said, “Indeed, we were quite lucky. No matter what, as long as it works out, it’s good.”
Everyone present know that.
Charlotte’s eldest son was also working on developing related internet products.
But for many years, nothing substantial has come of it.
Anne’s offhand remark felt like a dagger to Charlotte’s heart.
Charlotte forced a smile and chose not to continue the conversation.
The children from the other families, arrived one after another before noon.
The last to arrive was Zella’s son, Paolo.
“Dear, did the school call you?” Zella asked urgently.
Usually, when a school had a top scorer for the SAT, they were informed slightly earlier.
“No,” Paolo replied, feeling a bit irritable.
He didn’t greet the other ladies in the garden and just sat down, which seemed rude.
“Don’t worry, be patient,” Zella persuaded him. “This time, you will be the top scorer of SAT.”
“It’s not me!” Paolo shouted impatiently. “Can you stop talking about being the top scorer? It’s your fault for always going on about it before the test! It made me so stressed that I lost a lot of points!”
“What do you mean, not you? Then who else could it be?” Zella looked completely shocked.
“Someone from St. John High School,” said the daughter of the wealthy lady who arrived with Paolo.
“St. John High School?” Everyone gasped in surprise.
Everyone knew that, even though St. John High School was a prestigious school, its academic performance had always been
poor.
“Yes.” The girl nodded.
“Can you just shut up? Do you think you know everything or something?” Paolo grabbed a fork and threw it at the girl.
Cassie, who was sitting next to the girl, instinctively pulled her
closer
to her.
The fork hit a plate and broke it, scattering pieces everywhere.
“Oh, my goodness!” Someone shouted.
The table was thrown into chaos.

“What are you doing?” the girl’s mom immediately stood up.
Zella frowned, “Why are you shouting at my son? She didn’t even get hurt.”
“Mrs. Zamora, you’re too indulgent. with your child. Using a fork to hit someone right here? How have you been raising them?” the girl’s mom scolded insistently.
“Is that any of your concern?” Zella retorted, protecting Paolo.
“Cassie, you’re from St. John High School, right?” Casey suddenly turned to Cassie and asked, “Do you know if anyone at your school can be at the top?”
Cassie released the girl she was shielding.
Before she could speak, Paolo mocked, “That’s a joke. Who would be that idiot born of an actress?”
“Say it again,” Cassie demanded, her gaze sharp on Paolo.
In the past, Paolo had also bullied Cassie.
Every time, Cassie would just quietly walk away.
But this time, her sudden glare startled him.
“Did I say something wrong? Isn’t your mom an actress?” Paolo snapped, venting his frustration after being outdone in the SATS by someone from a prestigious school.
“Cassie,” Anne reached over and grabbed Cassie’s wrist.
Cassie looked at Paolo and chuckled sarcastically, “Paolo, what does that make you, losing to a fool born from an actress?”
Paolo froze, then laughed, “I lost to you?”
“Yes, me,” Cassie nødded.
“Cassie, can’t you think before you speak nonsense?” Paolo mocked, “Aren’t you aware of your situation?”
Cassie glanced at the clock, “The scores should be out now.”
“Why do you even care about checking your scores when you barely pass?” Paolo rolled his eyes. “Even when I’m not at my best, at a high score. Can you even come close to that?”
Cassie tilted her head slightly and smiled at Paolo.
“Paolo, why don’t you calm down and call the school to find out who scored 1300 this year?”
“Fine, I’ll call! But it can’t possibly be you, Cassie!”
Paolo finished speaking and immediately called the school, putting it on speaker.
Everyone there was eager for the upcoming drama.
A moment later, the call connected.
“Teacher, do you know who scored 1300 points there?” Paolo asked, looking at Cassie.
“I was just about to tell you, this person is quite unexpected! They’ve never been on the list before and haven’t entered any math or science competitions!” The teacher on the other end sounded genuinely surprised.
