Chapter 52
“I don’t like surprises” I told him.
“You never did” he muttered, he turned to look at Dez who glared at him and stood up.
“You’re going to bring her?” my dad questioned, Dez stared at him for a minute before giving a small nod. My dad checked his watch.
“My five minutes are almost up” he said, I looked at Dez.
“You only gave him five minutes?” I demanded, he didn’t reply but only led him out shutting the door with more force than necessary. He turned back around crossing his arms over his chest making his muscles bulge.
I felt my heart beat start to hammer in my chest, I dropped my eyes clearing my throat. What is going on? I went and sat down checking my pulse periodically, that was weird. After a while I started feeling hot.
“Dez” I said quietly causing him to look up at me.
“Can you turn the air on?” I asked, he gave me a puzzled look.
“Kendal its 65 degrees in here” he stated.
“Oh…” I said returning my gaze to the ground. My skin was hot, I felt my head even though I knew I wouldn’t be able to tell my own temperature. I frowned, I felt fine, I was clammy, and my skin was sticky. My mouth was dry, I looked up at Dez who had apparently been watching me.
I felt sick, I felt like I was going to be sick, I was suddenly so exhausted I just wanted to sleep. I could feel my heartbeat speeding up from me panicking. What is going on? Dez got up and his shoes came in my line of view, he set a hand on my forehead. His hand was like ice, I leaned into it closing my eyes.
“You’re burning u-” suddenly my stomach flipped I shoved him out of the way barely making it to the sink before I puked. I held my hair back and then sat there trying to support myself with my shaky hands. I washed my mouth and the sink out my body trembling. I leaned against the counter for support, I rubbed my head that was now aching.
Thinking just made it hurt worse. My head throbbed, I stood there for a minute before putting cold water
on my face. Dez came into the kitchen with some sweatpants and handed them to me, I put them on without question.
“We’re going to the infirmary” he said motioning for me to wrap my arms around his neck, I hesitated. It would not be very attractive if I puked all over him would it? I decided if I needed to puke I would make him stop and wrapped my arms around his neck carefully, his scent strong since I was so close. He picked

me up carefully, I laid my head on his chest, somehow his scent cured the headache, my temperature seemed to drop a few degrees just being with him, I clutched tighter to him feeling him stiffen under my
arms.
His muscles stayed rock hard under my arms all the way down the stairs to the main floor of the pack house. He took me down a few hallway and then into the infirmary.
“Oh my” I heard a woman’s voice say, my vision blurred slightly so I just closed my eyes and focused on
not throwing up.
“Set her here” the same woman said. I took in shallow breaths until I felt Dez trying to remove my hands, I let out a strangled cry clutching to him tighter.
“Oh dear” she said chuckling slightly.
“Kendal” Dez said quietly his deep voice vibrating through my chest, I forced my eyes open blinking a few times, the light hurt my eyes. I looked up at him.
“You have to let go” he told me his voice still low and deep and somehow soothing, I wanted to obey. I didn’t want to let him go, I wasn’t sure I could.
I finally talked myself into it and unlatched my fingers from him letting him set me down on the cold table, I wrapped my arms around myself, suddenly feeling very small and alone. Exhaustion hit me again and my head started throbbing again I grimaced, feeling my stomach churn.
The woman looked nice, she had on blue scrubs, and dark hair pulled into a bun, she had nice grey eyes and looked at me like she diagnosing me. She left telling me the doctor would be here in a minute and the apologized to Dez for the wait, he didn’t look happy about it but his eyes were trained on me.
I rubbed my arm, as the chill of the room seeped into my bones, I shivered slightly, and it was so cold in here. I chewed on my lip and jumped when the door opened, it was the man before that checked me out in the woods when Grey died. I watched him carefully. He frowned.
“What’s wrong?” he asked looking from me to Dez, Dez looked super irritated with the question and gave him a look, they caught eyes and im sure they were communicating, he turned his gaze back to me. He felt my head cautiously.
“Throwing up?” he question, I nodded weakly.
“Headache?” I nodded again.
“Chills, hot flashes, exhaustion, maybe some blurry vision?” he suggested, the worry slowly decreasing from his voice, I nodded. He turned to Dez.
