Chapter 9
I woke up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat, the mark on my neck was burning. It felt like it was on fire, I panted reaching up and touching it, only to feel a wet liquid on my hands, I got up and went to the bathroom flicking the light on, seeing blood, I washed my hands and then my neck, I stripped Dez’s shirt off that now had blood on it. I grabbed my hoodie off the floor and pulled it on. I examined my mark chewing on my lip to keep from crying out from the pain.
Why was my mark burning? Why was it bleeding?
I debated on whether I should wake Dez up or not. I decided I had caused enough trouble for the day and sat on the sink, wiping the blood off every now and then. It kept stinging and burning, it hurt so much and the pain was only getting worse. I went to the kitchen and got some ice holding it on it and went back to my room. I laid on the bathroom floor trying not to cry. I bit my lip to hold in my moans of pain.
I clenched the bottom of my hoodie trying to tolerate the pain. Eventually it got unbearable, and I was so close to waking Dez up. Eventually the pain was too much and everything blurred together and went
black.
I woke up in a puddle of water and blood, the water from the melted ice and the blood from my mark that was just dully aching now, I wiped the blood off and cleaned the bathroom floor up before getting up
and freezing in the bathroom mirror.
My mark, it was… faded. It was barely noticeable, it was fading. I could hear someone in the kitchen.
Maybe Dez knew what was going on.
I chewed on my lip debating on going to find him. I finally just decided to suck it up and stop being such a baby. He was my mate for fucks sake I shouldn’t be afraid to talk to him.
I went down the hallway into the kitchen, seeing him at the stove making something, he was in basketball
shorts and a t–shirt.
“D–Dez” I said quietly causing him to turn around and look at me. He looked at me probably waiting for me to speak. How exactly do I explain that his mark is going away on my neck?
“What did you call me?” he asked me.
“I- Dezmond” I corrected. “Um” I hesitated. Stop being such a baby. I walked over to him and he just stared at me waiting, I moved my hair to the side and tilted my head slightly, he looked down at my mark, or well my fading mark, and his brows furrowed and lines appeared on his forehead.
He put his hand in my neck brushing his thumb over the sore spot, a shivered and goose bumps erupted all over my body, as rolls of pleasure rolled through me, except they were duller than before. small noise. I couldn’t bear to meet his eyes and looked down at the floor.
“Go sit down” he told me jerking his head in the direction of the dining table. That’s it? Go sit down, that’s what I get? I obeyed going to the table pulling a chair out. He sat down a few minutes later setting a small plate in front of me handing me a fork. I ate the eggs and bacon he made, and then put my plate in the sink. I went and sat back down just as he finished, he pushed his plate back and I picked it up before he could get up and took his empty glass of milk setting the both in the sink, I returned to the kitchen table pulling my chair back out.
He kept his gaze on my for a little while just watching me, I just looked everywhere but him.
“Do you want me to mark you again?” he asked me after a while, I looked at him for a minute.
“Not if it’s going to hurt again” I replied, he pursed his lips.
“It’s fading because I haven’t been touching you” he told me.
“What?”
He didn’t repeat himself he just watched me carefully. He got up and left, and the second he did the pain in my chest and mark started again. I took a deep breath noticing how it had stopped when I was in his close proximity. He came back a few minutes later in jeans and a t–shirt, my breath hitched in my throat.
“Where are you going?” I asked curiously, he turned before getting to the door.
“Work” he replied shortly, my stomach clenched at the thought of being away from him.
“Can–Can I go with you?” I asked dropping my eyes to the floor feeling my cheeks flush.
“Why?”
“because I don’t want to start hurting again” I answered quietly, if he wasn’t an alpha he wouldn’t have heard me, I looked up at him and he gave me a short nod. He went back down the hallway and came back a minute later with a long sleeve shirt,
