Chapter 123
“Why did you mate with him?” he asked me, I took in a deep breath and cleared my throat.
“I think that I convinced myself that he loved me…. when he first met me he marked me… but the mating…” I trailed off not sure where I was going.
“So was it different after you mated, was he different?” he asked me, I shook my head.
“I don’t know, after we mated, I woke up at my dad’s and I never saw him again… until the other night.” I said quietly, his face twisted.
“He mated with you and then left you?” he asked, I nodded swallowing hardly, I could hear the anger in
voice.
“I can’t believe he treated you like that Kendal.” He finally said, I just nodded focusing on driving rather than this conversation I didn’t really want to have.
“I’m sorry for bringing that up” he finally said.
“It’s okay” I told him giving him a forced smile “You deserve to know things like that” I told him nodding
“God, you’re amazing…” he finally said.
“What?” I asked laughing a little from surprise, the tears I was fighting finally falling.
“You blow my mind every time I learn things about you” he said running his fingers through his hair. I wiped my tears laughing a little more.
We got into my old town and I navigated to my old house, I got there and parked staring at it.
“Hey” he said suddenly making me jump interrupting my thought process. He put both his hands in the crook of my neck and pulled me forward, pulling my lips on his. Eventually I melted into the kiss letting it wash all the thoughts and stress away, finally he pulled away.
I took a breath since my lungs were screaming for air, and relaxed back into his seat.
“I’m never going to treat you like that” he reminded me saying it hardly like it was a fact.
“I know” I told him after I could form thoughts nodding a little.
“You’re so strong and amazing…” he told me softly, I gave him a small smile, turning the truck off handing the key to him. I went to the front door and got the hidden key from the window sill of one of the living room windows. I opened the house and walked in. It didn’t feel like home, because I always knew that I

was never truly wanted here, but there were some good memories nonetheless.
I went up the stairs to my room. It still looked the same, all my high school medals and posters plaster to the wall. Pictures of my old friends and I, and old homecoming mums. I sighed and sat down just soaking everything in. I went into my closet, and found a lot of my old high school t–shirts and sports gear. I didn’t want to just leave this stuff here. Jay was watching me carefully.
“Can I bring some of this back with us?” I asked him, he shrugged.
“I don’t see why not” I grinned and then grabbed an old duffel bag. I shoved it full of old t–shirts and sweatpants. That’s what I wore to school, I played all the sports so whatever season it was, I was wearing that. I grabbed all the hoodies I could. Recently all I had been wearing was t–shirts, tights, nike shorts, and sweatpants. And that’s all this closet was full of so I was in luck. I also found some cute little dresses which I figured were probably one of my friends that had been left at my house after crashing after some party or something.
“Can I keep all of this at your house?” I asked him finally, he raised an eyebrow but nodded.
“I’ll make room in the closet” he told me.
“You don’t seem too excited for that” I stated.
“No I am, you just took me by surprise. Of course I want you to have clothes at my house” he said pulling me forward kissing me lightly, he sounded genuine so I nodded. He took everything to his truck and I took one last look around before leaving. He drove us back into town and suggested stopping to eat somewhere. I directed him to the best diner to eat at in town. I took my hair out of the braids since it had dried and put it up in a simple pony tail. I took him inside and let him look at the menu.
“You’re not going to look at the menu?” he asked me motioning to my untouched menu.
“Nope, I know what I want” I told him.
“What’s good here?” he finally asked, I shrugged.
“Anything on the menu” I told him, he shook his head and I laughed.
“Drinks?” a familiar voice said, I looked up to find one of the girls I went to high school with, her name was Jamie. Her eyes widened.
“Kendal?” I stood up and gave her a hug “Hey” I said.
“What are you doing here, I thought you had a job!” she said excitedly.
“Yeah, I did, but I came down for Hannah’s wedding” I told her, she looked super excited.
“So are you back now?” she asked.
