Chapter 122
“Jay” I said shaking him awake, he woke up.
“Hm” he said, his eyes were droopy and I knew he was probably half asleep.
“Why aren’t you in bed?” I whispered.
“You were supposed to be in there” he told me, his voice husky from sleep, I could see him blinking a little harder actually waking up, he sat up rolling his shoulders out.
“You can go, I’ll sleep here.” I offered, he shook his head.
“Jay, I can fit here, you can’t.” he shook his head again, I rolled my eyes.
“Fine.” I said annoyed and grabbed a blanket and laid down in the small space left over from him taking up the whole couch.
“What are you doing?” he asked me.
“If you are going to be stubborn so am I” I responded fixing my covers and then laying down, he let out a little laugh, and picked me up. He took me to his room and we both laid down and went to sleep. He didn’t get close to me or try anything, he just went to sleep on his side, and left space in–between us. I sighed and scooted over snuggling under his arm, he put his other arm over me and I went back to sleep.
I woke really early in the morning; I could hear a faint buzzing that was constant. Jay was passed out his arms wrapped around me still, I was in a cocoon of Jay’s strong arm and sheets. I worked my way out of the sheets and Jay’s arms and I went to find the buzzing noise. It was Jay’s phone, someone was calling him, the name displayed was Vincent.
I went and sat down, and shook jay awake. “Jay someone is calling you” he groaned in response but took the phone, he breathed in deeply and rolled on his back answering it. I got up and went to the bathroom. I looked better than yesterday, there wasn’t bags under my eyes, I actually got a real night’s worth of sleep. Without waking up to the annoying burning. I had actually been able to sleep through it, not lightly but real sleep. Was it because of Jay?
I didn’t know how that could work but I wasn’t questioning it. Jay put me to sleep, I woke up to the burn when Jay wasn’t there, and when I went back to sleep with him, I was able to. I studied my mark touching it gently, it was still fading a little at a time. I bit my lip, it was so sore and sensitive these days. Jay knocked on the door quietly before coming in, I just turned around facing him.
“Everything okay?” I asked him quietly, he nodded.
“I took the day off” he responded.

Chapter 122
“why?” I asked him curiously, but I could feel the happiness rising in my chest.
“So I could spend some time with you” he responded, I grinned and he smiled back.
“Okay” I chirped, “I’m going to take a shower is that okay?” I asked, he nodded and then got a towel out and set it on the counter, he kissed my forehead before leaving shutting the door quietly behind him. I sighed in content and turned the shower on. I washed my hair and let the hot water wake me up. I put on a t–shirt that was a little big for me and some nike shorts and the double French braided my hair and went downstairs. The smell of food hit me at the top of the stairs.
I went down and into the kitchen where breakfast was waiting. He was such a good cook, good lord. I ate and then helped him wash dishes.
“What would you like to do today?” he asked me, I thought for a little while, putting dishes back where they belong.
“Can we go to my old house?” I asked, I didn’t know why but I had been thinking about visiting there for a while now and we had a clear schedule.
“Of course we can” he responded, he kept staring at me, like not in a creepy way, just looking.
“Would you like to drive” he asked me holding his keys out, I bit my lip. His truck was huge; I wasn’t sure if I could even reach the pedals. I nodded and got in and I messed with his seat, until I had it all the way forward and he just watched me laughing at me as I struggled.
Finally, I sat on the edge of the seat enough to where I could just barely reach and told him to hush. I kind of knew where I was going from this direction but we would see. We talked for a little while just about things. He told me he didn’t know what meeting my dad had went to and just sort of went from there.
“Were
you
and Dezmond like this?” he asked me after a little while, I looked over at him.
“Like what?” I asked him, chewing on my lip.
“Did you do the things that we did?” he asked, I shook my head.
“No… Dez and I… we never talked… or did anything together. He always told me to be quiet and pushed me away.” I told him not letting my mind wander. I could see him shake his head out the corner of my eye. “This is much better” I added, smiling at him, he smiled back and I reached out for his hand, steering with one.
