“Are you sure you’re okay, would you like to try walking?”
“No” I said quickly. “I’m just a little tired Dad, I want to take a nap, can you find a way to contact Dez for
me?” I asked him.
“I’ll try.” He promised, I nodded and then fixed my pillow a little.
“Are you
you sure you’re okay, you seem off” he asked, I nodded.
“Fine, just tired” I lied, he nodded and then I closed my eyes willing sleep to come. Finally, he got up and then left. I laid there thinking about everything that had happened.
It was perfect. Absolutely perfect. It hurt like hell but did I expect it not to? I never knew it was possible to experience something like what I had the day before. After Dez remarked me during the mating process, I completely blacked out, I was feeling so much pleasure my body completely shut down. Why didn’t he wait until I woke up to take me to my dad’s? Honestly, I knew if I had woken up after that and he told me I was going to my dad’s I would’ve fought him tooth and nail. But to just complete the most sacred process of our kind with me, that literally made me blackout during and just drop me off at my dad’s without talking to me or anything? I knew that Dez was probably more than beating himself up over all the injuries. I didn’t know why he dropped me off at my dad’s but I was scared that this was his way of
convincing himself that he was protecting me.
I couldn’t live without him.
I tried our mind link and I could sense his presence but I couldn’t get to him. I chewed on my lip. I let my mind spin in an endless circle about mating, and Dez’s intentions, and how I needed to talk to him. Eventually all the worrying and inhaling Dez’s scent off his hoodie put my mind into a restless state of sleep. I woke up still in the same bed and room but without any of the monitors and with Jenny sitting in a chair by my bed, her head was laid on the bed and she was asleep. Which made me wonder how long she had been here. My stomach growled, I was so hungry. My body was still sore and hurt like hell but it was bearable, the pain in between my legs was still searing
“Jenny” I said pushing her head off my bed causing her body to jerk up.
“You bitch” she muttered.
“I’m hungry” I told her, she rolled her eyes.
“Fine I’ll send for some food. But first tell me what happened.” She said giving me a look.
“What do you mean? I was getting out of the bathtub and slipped” I recited but even my own voice sounded questionable.

“Did he do this to you?” she astoud me
“Do what? I’m fine.” I said rolling my eyes.
“You haven’t seen your body have you?” she asked, I stared at her for a minute before shaking my head,
she nodded.
“It’s bad Kendal. Like really bad. And your dad may believe Hunt you slipped, but floors don’t leave handprints” she said through her teeth. Her eyes were burning with anger, I could see the fire ignited in them. She looked furious.
“He didn’t mean to do it” her eyebrows shot up.
“You’re fucking defending him after he beat the hell out of you Kendal? What the fuck is wrong with you?” she demanded.
“He didn’t beat the hell out of me” I said rolling my eyes.
“And now you’re going to lie. To my face. And defend him.” Jenny said, she looked hurt and angry and betrayed.
“Jenny we had sex. Okay? That’s where all the bruises came from. We just had sex.” She stared at me for a long minute searching my eyes,
“How could sex leave so much damage Kendal.” She finally asked but her voice was back to normal and she was no longer yelling. I told her everything, about how Dez and I had talked about it, and how he got hurt and everything James had told me. I told her about the odds and how they actually happened, and how Dez didn’t want to do it in the first place but it was what I wanted. She was silent after I had finished.
“So why are you here then?” she asked finally.
“I think that… I think that Dez brought me here because he’s convinced himself this is the only way to protect me
“Protect you from what?”
“From him.” I responded.
The next week or so I got settled in. I moved in with my dad into Kylie’s old room because her and Jenny had gotten their own place together. Unfortunately, with my dad came Angel. She tried to be nice but I just tried to ignore her as much as possible. She was a total sweetheart and was completely head over heels for my
dad but, I just couldn’t get over the fact that this woman was the basic reason I didn’t have dad to raise me and I was stuck in the situation I was growing up.
