“So, what do you think? I know it’s rough, but I’d really love to hear your thoughts,” I said, handing my latest sketches to Rolin.
It was the final day before our deadline, and my nerves were on edge.
Rolin flipped through the pages, his expression unreadable.
After what felt like an eternity, he finally set the sketches down and met my gaze with a faint smile.
“Elizabeth, don’t hate me for being honest, but these designs… they’re not quite there yet.”
I nodded, bracing myself for the sting of rejection.
But to my surprise, instead of dismissing me, he waved me over to sit beside him.
“Don’t get me wrong,” Rolin said quickly, noticing my crestfallen expression.
“Considering you haven’t been designing in years, this is really
impressive. I didn’t expect you to be this good after all this time. These sketches are solid-they’re just missing something.”
“Missing something?” I echoed.

“Yeah,” he said, leaning back in his chair. “They’re good, but they lack
that spark. That unique touch that used to set you apart. Technically, they are sound, but they’re missing your personality.”
I stared at him, trying to grasp what he meant.
“Come with me,” Rolin said suddenly grabbing his coat. “There is something I want to show you.”
I hesitated, just for a moment.
Leo had just returned from his trip and was expecting us to have dinner together.
In the old days, I would’ve immediately declined Rolin’s offer and gone to dine with Leo, high-spirited and eager.
But now, it suddenly struck me that dinner with Leo wasn’t as important as my designs.
After all, Rolin hadn’t outright rejected my designs; there was still a
chance.
In that moment, I understood why Leo had stood me up time and again. It wasn’t just because of Luna; it was because there were things more important to him than being with me.
was never his first choice.
“Fine,” I finally said. “Lead the way.”
