Book2 Chapter18
I was so lost in the sketches that Leo’s voice barely registered at first.
“Beth- Beth-Elizabeth!”
His third, louder call jolted me out of my thoughts.
“We’re here,” he said as the car came to a stop.
I quickly powered off my tablet and stepped out of the car, walking
briskly ahead of him.
He had called me “Beth”-a name that felt foreign now, like it belonged
to a version of me that no longer existed.
Once inside, I rushed to the bathroom, desperate to strip away the
layers of makeup and escape the constricting grip of my formal
clothes.
The moment I slipped into my pajamas, a wave of relief washed over
me-I finally felt like myself again.
I settled down with my tablet, eager to dive back into Rolin’s designs, but then I noticed Leo, already dressed for sleep, sitting on the edge of
the bed.
“You’re staying here tonight?” I asked, trying to mask my surprised.
