Rolin’s friends looked startled as Leo pulled me away and nudged
Rolin back into his seat.
“Whoa, man! What’s your problem? We were just talking!”
Rolin’s friends immediately closed in, looking ready to jump in.
I shot Rolin a pleading look, and he quickly stepped in, waving
everyone off.
“Chill, guys. We’re all friends here. No need for drama.”
Leo’s anger simmered beneath the surface, though I couldn’t figure
out why.
“So, this is Leo?” Rolin broke the tension first.
“Nice to meet you, I’m Rolin. Elizabeth and I were college buddies.”
Leo gave a stiff nod, extending his hand more out of formality than
goodwill.
Rolin caught my eye, noticing how tense I was in Leo’s grip. He went
on, “Sorry about earlier. I’ve been out of the country for a while, so I’m still adjusting. Didn’t mean anything by it.”
“Are you Elizabeth’s husband now?”

Leo’s expression hardened.
“We have a personal matter to discuss,” he said icily.
Without another word, he dragged me toward the door.
I called out to Rolin, “Can you help me with Emma?”
Leo’s grip tightened, but I ignored him.
