Chapter 6
My stepmother looked anxious, but she didn’t dare intervene. She could only stand aside, wringing her hands helplessly.
“Yes, Mr. Daxton, you must be mistaken. How could this woman possibly be Mrs. Daxton?”
“Everyone knows she’s immoral. She spent an entire week with five men in the mountains.”
“Please don’t misunderstand and cause unnecessary conflict.”
Evan shoved Rose away forcefully, sending her sprawling to the ground.
Under everyone’s terrified gazes, he approached me and gently pushed aside my disheveled hair. His expression softened with distress as he examined my face.
“Are you saying that I, Evan Daxton, can’t even recognize my own wife?”
“It seems the Gilberts and Dukes have grown quite bold in recent years. You barged into room, assaulted and humiliated her.”
my wife’s
Your families must have become quite powerful to dare challenge the Daxton family like this.”
Evan Daxton’s words were like a drop of cold water falling into a pot of boiling oil, causing the entire
room to erupt.
“Oh my god, did I mishear or am I dreaming? Is Lily Gilbert really marrying Evan Daxton today?”
“Is the Gilbert family completely brainless? They threw away Lily and severed ties with the Daxton family just like that?”
“Threw away a sesame seed,‘ you say? No, this time the Gilbert and Duke families are completely doomed.”
Rose, seemingly forgetting her pain, clenched her fists tightly and screamed in disbelief.
“How is this possible? How can Lily become the wife of the richest man? What right does she have?”
“A shameless woman like her should spend her life beneath my feet!”
“This must be a mistake! It has to be a mistake!”

Gavin quickly stepped forward to support Rose, shooting her a look, signaling her to stop.
He then turned to Evan, putting on a solemn expression.
“Mr. Daxton, my wife is young and impulsive. Please don’t take her words to heart.”
“She and Lily may be sisters, but they’ve never gotten along. That’s why she said those rash things.”
“As for why they don’t get along, perhaps Mr. Daxton isn’t aware yet?”
At this point, Gavin glanced at me, malice practically spilling from his eyes.
“Originally, Lily was supposed to marry me, but not long ago, she went hiking in the mountains with
five men.”
“What she claimed was hiking turned out to be something unspeakable. She disappeared for an entire week, and we couldn’t find her.”
“When she finally returned home, we learned that she’d been fooling around with those five men the entire time. That’s why I called off the engagement, and the Gilbert family disowned her to protect their reputation.”
Evan carefully adjusted the bedsheet draped over me and responded in a calm, low voice.
“And how do you know it was five men?”
“How do you know she spent the entire week with them?”
“Did she tell you that herself?”
Gavin froze, unable to come up with a response.
Rose, unwilling to back down, shouted angrily.
“There were photos! Someone sent them to our house! She was caught in the mountains with those
men!”
“And as for what she was doing there, a woman disappearing for an entire week–what else could it
be?”
“Mr. Daxton, you’re no child. Surely I don’t need to spell it out for you?”
Gavin gave Rose an approving look before turning back to Evan with feigned sincerity.

Mr. Daxton, I could’ve kept quiet about this, especially since, if Lily were to marry you, we’d technically be in–laws.”
“But I couldn’t stand by and watch you be deceived by a woman like her.”
“With your status, Mr. Daxton, you can have any woman you want. Why settle for someone so
tainted?”
As I listened to Gavin’s self–righteous speech, a cold chill ran through my body, down to my bones.
Three years. I’d spent three years loving a dog.
I closed my eyes, refusing to even glance at these people any longer.
Seeing my reaction, Gavin assumed I was admitting to everything. His tone grew more relaxed.
“See, Mr. Daxton? She admits it. She doesn’t even have the courage to refute what I’ve said. Isn’t that proof enough?”
“Mr. Daxton, a woman like her doesn’t deserve to set foot in the Daxton family home. She’s no different from her dead mother–both shameless women obsessed with lust.”
