I had just changed into my exquisite custom–made wedding dress and finished my makeup, waiting in the luxurious top–tier suite of the hotel for Evan Daxton to arrive and take me to the ceremony.
My best friend and bridesmaid, Lexi Briggs, looked at me with envy written all over her face.
“Lily, you’re absolutely stunning today.”
“It’s alright,” I replied, smiling. “Finally, the tough times are over. Marrying Evan Daxton is a million times better than marrying that ungrateful, heartless Gavin Duke, isn’t it?”

I couldn’t help but laugh at Lexi’s words, just as I was about to respond, the door was kicked open with a loud bang.
Following the sound, I turned to see none other than my ex–boyfriend, Gavin Duke, barging in.
He stormed into the room with a group of men and women trailing behind him, pointing at me and yelling.
“I didn’t believe it when someone told me they saw you here, but it’s really you!”
“Lily Gilbert, do you have no shame?”
“Today is my wedding day with Rose Gilbert. We’ve already broken up, and you’re dressed like this–what do you think you’re doing?”
I glanced down at my elegant, custom–made wedding dress, momentarily confused about what he meant. Was he saying that he and my half–sister, Rose, were also getting married today?
Before I could explain, the group that Gavin had brought started mocking me. Judging by their attire, they seemed to be part of Gavin and Rose’s wedding party.

Hearing this, Gavin’s face filled with disdain, as if he thought I was just making it up.

“How long has it been since we broke up? Who could you possibly marry?”
“Besides, this is my wedding venue. You’re conveniently here, and you expect me to believe that?”
Lexi, furious at Gavin’s arrogance, shouted at them.
“Don’t you understand plain English? Lily is marrying Evan Daxton today. What does it have to do with you?”
“Do you even know who Evan Daxton is? The only son of the Daxton family–the wealthiest family!”
“Think twice about causing trouble here. Do you think you can afford to provoke the Daxton family?”
Lexi’s words brought a moment of silence to the room.
Gavin Duke’s sneering laughter shattered it.
“Hahaha, did you just say Evan Daxton?”
“Do you even know where the Daxton family’s gates are? Do you think someone like you could ever
come close to them?”
“This is hilarious. If you actually marry Evan Daxton, I’ll get on my knees and bow to you three umes.”
