Chapter 8
Chapter 8
“You’ve scammed me. Just return the money. You’ve taken so many things from me, and now you even want this little bit of money? Be careful not to choke on it!”
My gaze turned cold.
“You marked it as a voluntary gift back then. If you want it back, it’s not possible. If you really have an objection, we can continue the lawsuit. I’m always ready to accompany you in court!”
Glen still tried to stop me, but I didn’t give him the chance.
I slammed the taxi door shut, leaving only a long trail of exhaust in the air behind me.
A few days later, I received the money that was owed to me into my account.
And my divorce certificate.
The home we had lived in for six years was also awarded to me. I immediately changed the locks so that Glen couldn’t get in.
Now, I had taken off my apron, distanced myself from the greasy smoke, and put on my lawyer’s
suit.
, I heard others respectfully calling me “Honorable Lawyer.”
I helped one woman after another, kicking out scumbag men, and securing most of the pre–marital
assets.
As well as the custody of the children.
Hearing the clients bowing to me in gratitude and apologizing, I felt a warmth in my heart.
During this period, I was busy with lawsuits and contacting clients, but it felt incredibly fulfilling.
However, not everything went smoothly.
For example, Glen actually swallowed his pride and contacted me.
He sent me numerous messages.
“Darling.”

When I saw that word, my hand holding the phone trembled.
“I miss you. It was my mistake. I was misled by Helen, that low–class woman, and neglected someone as excellent as you.”
“I really regret it. Can you come back to me?”
I didn’t need to guess; I knew exactly what he was plotting in his heart.
I replied to him slowly.
“Marriage? Are you asking to marry me or my money?”
He quickly denied it.
“Of course, it’s you, Sue. I truly love you.”
I sneered.
“Cut the crap, Glen. It’s disgusting, and it makes me want to vomit.”
Hearing my merciless sarcasm, Glen seemed slightly impatient.
Wet, he still smiled and tried to persuade me.
“A woman, without the support of a man, is ultimately useless. Especially a woman who’s been , divorced.”
“Sue, who else would want you, except for me?”
I coldly laughed.
“Don’t trouble yourself, I have money and talent. Why would I worry about finding a man? Just like you said, I can use your wallet to support a bunch of pretty boys.”
On the other end of the phone, Glen seemed like he was about to have a heart attack.
“You…”
He looked like he was having a heart attack.
I didn’t want to continue talking to him. I still had plenty of lawyer work to do.
gathered all my emotions, coldly said,

“I’m hanging up now. As I said, if you have any objections, find me in court. I’m always available.”
Otherwise, don’t bother me. There’s no longer any relationship between us. After hanging up, I’ll block you. No disturbances, please.”
In the final second before the phone call ended, Glen gritted his teeth.
“Susan, you’re forcing me!”
When I heard those words, I felt nothing.
After all, I had already crushed those scumbags in court, leaving them with nothing but their underwear.
In court, they almost wanted to hit me, shouting that once it was over, they’d teach me a lesson and remind me to stay humble.
But what happened? After the court session, I never even saw their shadow.
Once the call ended, I immersed myself back into my work.
But a few days later, I received a message.
was from a person who had consulted me online about a divorce case.
A few days ago, I had roughly understood his request and the main marital issues that triggered the . divorce.
Now, he was messaging me to meet in a café to hand over some evidence of his partner’s infidelity.
After years of being a lawyer, I had one principle.
I only take cases where one party is innocent and disadvantaged.
My mentor once told me that I was too kind and that in this profession, being emotional and soft–hearted was the most dangerous thing. It could easily backfire.
But despite his warning, I’ve always stuck to my conscience and done what I felt was right.
After listening to the client’s account of being abused in the marriage, I felt deeply shocked and was even more eager to help him.
So, when I received the message, I quickly gathered my things and went to meet him.

But when I opened the door, I saw Helen standing there.
furrowed my brows.
“What are you here for?”
My tone was far from pleasant. I couldn’t bring myself to smile at someone who had once harmed
- me.
But Helen looked flustered, quickly grabbing my hand.
“I’m here to help you!”
