Chapter 6
I rolled my eyes. After all, Evelyn Wat had previously said I came from an ordinary family with a “missy” complex. Now, she was praising me as the perfect match for her son. What a hypocrite.
Seeing Evelyn Wat about to go on and on, I raised my hand, cutting her off. “You’ve forgotten the things you said before, haven’t you? I remember them very clearly.”
“And if I wanted to hear compliments, I wouldn’t have invited you over. Just get to the point–what exactly do you need?”
Evelyn Wat froze, her smile faltering. Nelson Jim frowned. “Shiny, what do you mean by this?”
I gave him a confused look. “What do you mean? Why are you getting upset? You’ve come all this way–what do you want?”
Nelson Jim stood up, clearly agitated, his chest heaving with emotion. “I’m here with my mom to give our relationship a second chance.”
“But how can you treat my mom like this? She’s your elder! I’ve told you before, my father died early, and my mom raised me alone.
If this were ancient times, the court would have awarded her a virtuous woman’s medal for all she’s
done for me!”
“My mom’s such a great person, and yet you treat her like this. Are you even human? You talk about- women’s rights, about gender equality, but where’s your sympathy for my mom?”
Evelyn Wat looked at her son, eyes misty with tears, as she gazed at him with pride.
I sighed. “What does it have to do with me if your mom’s had a hard time? I’m not responsible for
that.”
Nelson Jim seemed to have been waiting for me to ask. When I did, he snorted. “Before I met you. sure, it had nothing to do with you. But after we met?”
“You’re so rich, you eat meals worth hundreds of thousands, live in a mansion worth billions, and can casually buy houses worth millions.
Why don’t you buy something nice for my mom? Why don’t you make sure she enjoys life?”
At this point, I was utterly dumbfounded, not even knowing what to say.

Nelson Jim looked at me condescendingly. “We came to ask you a question. While you were abroad, did you think about what you did wrong?
Have you thought about our marriage and how you plan to compensate me and my mom?”
I had intended to speak calmly, but seeing how they were acting, I realized a peaceful conversation wasn’t possible. I cleared my throat. “Are you out of your mind?”
“I went abroad for vacation. What do I have to repent for?”
Nelson Jim was furious. “You… you broke up with me without any reason and still left without a word! Do you realize how much this hurt me and my mom? You think I’m a joke, huh?”
I was completely speechless.
But I was just relieved that my father wasn’t around at the moment. If he found out what he had
done-
making things difficult for someone and then having it twisted into concern–he’d probably be so angry he’d pass out.
Once Nelson Jim finished speaking, I couldn’t hold it in any longer. I burst out laughing. “Stop being so full of yourself. My dad’s just trying to mess with you!”
You really underestimated what a doting father will do. If it weren’t for the fact that he can’t break the law, whether you’re even standing here would be a big question.
Evelyn Wat shook her head in disbelief. “This can’t be true. You’re lying.”
“My son is a top student. He’s got it all–education, looks, height. What woman wouldn’t want him?
The main reason I even looked at Nelson Jim was that I’m a sucker for good looks, and he really resembled a celebrity I had a crush on.
But no matter how perfect his appearance, it couldn’t cover up the foul stench of his personality.
I gave them both a disgusted look, but Evelyn Wat acted like she didn’t see it and kept talking. “You’d be lucky to have my son. Honestly, the whole family should be thanking their stars.”
Now it all made sense. No wonder Nelson Jim was so full of himself–not only did he have sycophants singing his praises, but he had Evelyn Wat feeding him that nonsense.
“Evelyn Wat, seeing that I wasn’t speaking, grew even more confident. “Isn’t it true? You just want my
soh to marry you and then be below you. Let’s clear the air today.”
