Chapter 6
At that moment, the entire hall was struck dumb.
Sophie’s eyes widened in disbelief, Timothy’s face showed pure shock, and Gemma’s cronies turned pale.
Gemma herself was frozen, unable to process what was happening. She finally stammered, “How… how could this little wretch be…”
Before she could finish, her father slapped her hard across the face.
The Paxton family members, their faces filled with fear, rushed over, bowing and stammering apologies.
The butler didn’t wait for them to finish and declared, “This is Miss Selena Johnson, the treasured daughter of the Johnson family in Capital City–our one and only Young Miss.”
“A few days ago, she was humiliated here in River City. Someone demanded she kowtow and even threatened to sell her to Northern Myanmar!”
Mr. and Mrs. Johnson are furious about this, which is why I am here!”
As soon as the butler finished speaking, Gemma’s cronies turned deathly pale. Some of them
. trembled violently, and two even wet themselves in fear.
The Paxton family was in full panic mode now. Dragging Gemma along, they hurried over to me, their faces filled with terror as they apologized profusely.
Gemma, now realizing the full extent of her mistake, stared at me in horror. Her voice trembled as she said, “Miss Johnson… Selena… I didn’t mean it!”
“I didn’t know who you were. I know I was wrong!”
“I won’t marry Timothy anymore. I’ll give him back to you….”
I shook my head lightly and said coldly, “You’re not sorry–you’re scared.”
“But unfortunately for you, it’s too late.”
The members of the Paxton family were thrown into chaos. Gemma’s parents even dropped to thei knees, begging for my forgiveness.

Gemma herself knelt before me, repeatedly howing her head to the floor.
Her cronies followed suit, filling the ground with trembling bodies.
They all understood the consequences of offending the Johnson family from Capital City.
Sophie sat limply on the floor, her face a mask of despair.
She knew my temperament and understood that forgiveness wasn’t an option. She seemed completely lost, like a puppet whose strings had been cut.
Timothy stood frozen, as if struck by lightning, staring at me in stunned silence.
But I couldn’t afford to tarnish the Johnson family’s reputation. If I crushed the Paxton family completely out of personal vengeance, the elites of River City might grow resentful, branding the Johnsons as tyrannical.
Such a label could harm my family’s standing.
I turned to Cole and said, “Let’s begin.”
Cole nodded hurriedly and gestured to the hotel staff.
[oments later, the large screen in the banquet hall lit up, displaying footage of Gemma and her cronies committing numerous crimes.
⚫ Drunk driving hit–and–runs, forcing women into prostitution, extorting money that drove families to
suicide…
And most damning of all, their connections to Northern Myanmar. Much of the Paxton family’s illicit wealth had originated from there, maintained through close ties with criminal elements.
As the evidence rolled across the screen, the hall erupted in an uproar.
The guests‘ gazes toward the Paxton family shifted to ones of disgust and disdain.
Many of their business partners immediately announced the severance of all ties.
It was clear to anyone with half a brain–the Paxton family was finished.
Gemma’s eyes filled with bloodshot rage as she glared at me with venom. Letting out a shrill scream, she charged at me.
Before she could get close, a group of burly bodyguards stormed in, one of them kicking her away.

The butler had brought these bodyguards from Capital City precisely to prevent such outbursts from Raining me.
At that moment, a group of police officers entered the banquet hall.
Following my instructions, Cole had called the police when we arrived at the hotel.
The officers arrested the Paxton family members, along with Gemma’s cronies.
Sophie narrowly escaped legal trouble, having not participated in any of Gemma’s criminal
activities.
Timothy, unaware of Gemma’s crimes, was also spared.
Sophie looked at me with a bitter smile and said, “You’re the daughter of the Johnson family, the little princess of Capital City. Was it fun pretending to be our friend and hiding your identity?”
“Do you think I’m ridiculous?”
“I just wanted a better life. Was that so wrong?”
I replied calmly, “Pursuing happiness is everyone’s right.”
But it mustn’t come at the expense of others.”
“As for my identity, I told you before. You just didn’t believe me.”
“There’s nothing more to say. The world is vast; may you take care in the days ahead.”
I didn’t seek revenge on her, but her future wouldn’t be easy.
After all, betraying me meant others, eager to curry favor with me, wouldn’t make things smooth for
her.
Timothy’s gaze was complicated, as if he had a thousand words he couldn’t bring himself to say
I spoke first. “I understand you.”
“After all, you sacrificed yourself to save your mother and pay off your family’s debts. That was noble of you.
“I’ll arrange for your mother to receive the best treatment, and you won’t need to worry about the
costs.”

Relief and gratitude filled Timothy’s face as he stepped forward, wanting to embrace me,
But I stepped back, and the butler blocked his way.
I continued coldly, “I understand, but that doesn’t mean we can go back to how things were.”
“I can’t tolerate betrayal, no matter the reason.”
Timothy, the years I spent with you were happy ones.
“I’ll cherish the memory of that time.”
“But from now on, forget about me.”
Timothy wept, but I turned and left.
As I exited the hotel, the butler smiled at me. “Young Miss, shall we return home, or would you like to take a trip to relax?”
I looked up at the gentle yet not glaring sunlight and exhaled deeply. “Let’s go home.”
Home was my safe haven, and I wanted to stay there for a while.
didn’t know how long it would take for the scars in my heart to heal.
Nor did I know if I could ever love someone again.
But I hoped that, in the days to come, both Timothy and I would find the right people to walk besidé
