Chapter 3
Gemma snorted and looked at me with disdain. “Selena, Timothy even begged me not to give you trouble before, but I didn’t bother with a small–town girl like you.”
“But since you’ve come here on your own and have the audacity to insult me, you’ve really annoyed me now.”
“Get on your knees and kowtow three times, and I’ll forgive your disrespect.”
:
“If you don’t, don’t even think about leaving this room!”
As soon as she finished speaking, her cronies stood up one by one, surrounding me in an instant.
Timothy seemed anxious and was about to say something, but Gemma shot him a vicious glare. He immediately lowered his head, not daring to speak further.
Gemma’s cronies pinned me down, but I didn’t resist. I simply stared at them coldly.
I would remember their faces, remember their arrogance today.
And then, I’d settle the score one by one.
Gemma walked up to me and slapped me hard across the face.
She grabbed my hair and sneered, “I don’t like the way you’re looking at me.”
“And I don’t like you, either.”
“Learn from your friend Sophie–she knows how to adapt. All that nonsense about friendship and sisterhood–adults only care about one thing: interests.”
“I’ll say it again: kneel and kowtow, or you won’t leave this room today!”
My face burned with pain, but I glared at her with a cold, expressionless gaze. “A woman like you. doesn’t deserve my respect, let alone my kowtows!”
“Gemma, if you kneel now and apologize, I might forgive your disrespect. Otherwise, it won’t just be you–your entire family will pay the price…”
Before I could finish, Gemma slapped me again.

he laughed disdainfully and said, “Solenn, have you lost your mind? Do you even know what youre Bang
“Threatening me? Do you even know who I am? In River City, very few people have the right to threaten me, and your’re definitely not one of them.”
“The more stubborn you are, the more I dislike you. I’m thinking of sending you to Northern Myanmar for a little ‘re education. That should temper your attitude. What do you think?
Her cronies burst into laughter, jeering and chiming inc.
“Sending her to Northern Myanmar? Breaking her arms and legs would be too merciful
“Selena does have a pretty face. She’d fetch a good price over there.”
“How dare she provoke Gemmn? She must be tired of living!”
“This private club is partly owned by Gemma. Even if she kills you here, no one would ever find out.
Seeing that I still refused to kneel, Gemma picked up a steak knife from the table and handed it to Sophie. “Go on. Make a few marks on your dear friend’s face.”
Sophie flinched, her face filled with hesitation.
Gemma’s voice turned icy. “You’re a smart girl. You should know what happens if you defy me!”
At this, Sophie quickly grabbed the knife from Gemma’s hand, her expression conflicted as she
walked toward me.
Sophie avoided my gaze and stammered, “Selena, you brought this on yourself. You can’t blame anyone else!”
“Don’t hate me–if you must hate someone, blame your own bad luck!”
With that, Sophie raised the knife, ready to slash my face.
Timothy panicked. He stepped forward, about to stop Sophie, when the door to the private room
was suddenly kicked open.
Cole stormed in, his face livid with rage, and shouted, “Stop!”
“You bastards! If any of you dare hurt Miss Johnson, I’ll skin you alive today!”
Cole Mason wasn’t just a prominent figure in River City; he was a media sensation across the

He was always gentle and considerate toward women.
But now, as he stormed into the private room, the look in his eyes toward Sophie was so fierce it seemed like he was ready to devour her alive.
Cole’s sudden intrusion left everyone in the room stunned.
Before they could react, he strode forward and kicked aside the cronies who had pinned me down. sending them sprawling to the floor.
No one dared move; after all, Cole’s background was something they couldn’t afford to provoke.
