Chapter 4
The next morning, when I got up, Arthur Desmond and Ella Throne were sitting at the dining table having breakfast.
Arthur blew on a bowl of soup in front of him and then fed a bite to Ella.
They must have thought I was still asleep because their behavior was much bolder than usual.
“Mr. Desmond,” Ella said, “I think Hannah’s a good person. If you have time, you should help her take care of your daughter. After all, she is your child.”
Arthur beamed. “Why should I care about that little girl? If I’m going to care about anything, it’ll be the little treasure in your belly! That’s our love child!”
Ella blushed deeply. “Oh, stop it… But you promised me: if I give birth to a son, you’ll divorce her and marry me.”
Arthur nodded eagerly. “Of course, Ella. When have I ever lied to you?”
I quietly recorded their conversation and sent the video straight to my lawyer.
So that’s why Arthur was acting so brazenly–Ella was pregnant with his child.
What enraged me even more was how little he thought of our daughter, the one I risked my life to bring into this world.
There’s no royal throne in this house. Yet he insists on having a son, as if he’s planning for an heir. It’s utterly absurd.
I placed Lila in her stroller, planning to take her out for a walk.
When I entered the living room, Arthur immediately stopped feeding Ella and came over to speak to me. “Honey, come have breakfast.”
I glanced at the leftovers on the table and declined. “No thanks. The weather’s nice today, so I’m taking Lila out to get some sun.”
Lila, being so young, instinctively reached out her arms toward Arthur, wanting her father to hold
her.
But in the next moment, Ella groaned loudly. “Ah, my stomach hurts so much!”

Arthur’s expression changed instantly. Ignoring Lila’s outstretched arms, he rushed to Ella’s side.
Ella, what’s wrong?”
Ella clutched his arm dramatically. “I don’t know, Could you help me back to the bedroom to rest?”
Without hesitation, Arthur scooped her up in his arms and carried her straight to the master
bedroom.
I comforted the disappointed Lila, put on a mask, and left the house.
Today was supposed to be the day I cashed in my lottery ticket.
At the lottery counter, with Lila in tow, I redeemed the ticket and walked away with a remaining
balance of eight million dollars after taxes.
I donated $10,000 to a children’s welfare foundation, hoping to help more children and bring good
karma to my Lila.

The rest of the money was my ticket to independence–a new life for me and Lila, far away from
Arthur.
The lawyer said drafting the divorce agreement would take a few days.
To avoid raising Arthur’s suspicions, I returned home with Lila after redeeming the lottery ticket.
When I got back, I received a call from my boss, reminding me that I had left a work task incomplete and needed to send over a report immediately.
Ella approached me at that moment, holding one of Lila’s toys. “Hannah, let me watch Lila for you while you work.”
I shook my head. “No need. Lila can play by herself.”
I placed Lila in her playpen and hurried to the computer to find the necessary file.
It didn’t even take five minutes before I heard Lila’s heart–wrenching cries.
I rushed out and saw a clear scratch on Lila’s arm.
Lila is my everything. Anyone who dares to hurt her is asking for my
life.
I grabbed Ella by the hair and slapped her hard across the face. “How dare you lay a hand on my

daughter?”
Ella didn’t fight back but instead began wailing loudly.
Her cries quickly drew Arthur over. He pulled me aside and shielded Ella with his body.
“Hannah Layla! What do you think you’re doing?”
I held Lila tightly, trying to comfort her as she wailed uncontrollably.
“What am I doing? Didn’t you see her hurting your daughter? That mark on her arm–she pinched
her!”
Though Arthur Desmond wasn’t particularly fond of Lila, she was still his flesh and blood. His brows furrowed as he turned to Ella Throne. “What happened?”
