Chapter 3
Just as I hung up the phone, I heard the sound of the door opening,
Arthur entered, carrying bags and boxes in his arms, his face lit up with an unusually enthusiastic
smile.
It had been a long time since I’d seen him smile like that.
But the moment he saw me, his smile disappeared, “Why aren’t you at work?”
I sneered at him. “Not everyone can be as indifferent as you. The child was burning with fever, yet you acted like nothing was wrong.”
Arthur frowned. “Stop finding faults the moment we meet. I was working overtime yesterday!”
“If it weren’t for you and Lila, do you think I’d be working myself to the bone every day?”
Just then, I noticed a slender figure standing outside the door.
It was Ella Throne.
She extended her hand toward me with a polite smile. “Hannah, nice to meet you. Sorry to bother you.”
I didn’t respond, nor did I step aside.
Arthur, on the other hand, couldn’t hold back his impatience.
He tugged me to the side and gently helped Ella to sit on the couch.
“Ella’s injured, so she’ll be staying with us for a few days,” he announced.
I glanced at the two of them and said, “Injured and staying at someone else’s house? Arthur Desmond, you’re really generous.”
Arthur waved dismissively, his tone laced with irritation.
“You know how hard it is for Ella to make her way in the world as a young woman living alone. She works at my company, so of course I have to look after her. It’s just a colleague relationship–don’t overthink it.”

Ella looked at me, her eyes brimming with tears. “Hannah, I’m so sorry to intrude on you and Mr.
Desmond.”
I nodded. “Yes, you are intruding. As you can see, there’s a child in this house. It’s really inconvenient.”
“Shut up, Hannah!” Arthur cut me off sharply.
“Can’t you show some compassion? Ella’s five years younger than you. How can you be so harsh to her? We have a guest room, don’t we? What’s the harm in letting her stay for a few days? Besides, I bought this house. I decide who stays here, so stop making a fuss.”
Arthur spoke with such self–righteousness, as if he had forgotten that when I was Ella’s age, I endured hardships to support him.
At that time, he used to care about me, promising to give me a better life.
And now, his care was reserved for someone else.
I smiled faintly and blocked Arthur’s path as he headed toward the guest room.
“Since you insist, how could I disagree? I was actually thinking, since Ella’s injured, she should stay in the master bedroom. I’ll take the child to the guest room.”
Arthur looked puzzled, perhaps sensing something unusual in my demeanor.
. In the past, I would argue, make a scene, but now I had so readily agreed to his decision and even
offered up the master bedroom.
“Hannah, are you okay?”
I began packing my belongings efficiently. “Of course, I’m fine. I’m just being considerate of you
two.”
Arthur agreed to my suggestion and even offered to help me move my things. What a hypocrite!
But just as Arthur lent a hand, Ella suddenly stood up and bowed to me.
“Thank you so much, Hannah. I’ll definitely repay your kindness… Oh!”
Before she could finish her sentence, she stumbled and fell again, as if unable to stand.
Arthur, utterly distressed, brushed past me to scoop Ella up and carried her into the master bedroom

Over Arthur’s shoulder, Ella gave me a triumphant smile, as if mocking me for my inability to keep my husband in line.
What she didn’t realize was that, in my eyes, Arthur was worth less than garbage.
After Ella moved into the master bedroom, Arthur volunteered to sleep on the couch in the living room, claiming it was to avoid suspicion.
However, when I got up in the middle of the night, I didn’t see him on the couch. Instead, I heard suggestive sounds coming from the master bedroom.
Ríght under the nose of the wife, they were indulging in their little escapade. Truly, their pursuit of thrills knew no bounds.
