Chapter 1 Fallen Into Their Trap

At Sophyman Hotel in Jorhamville, the surveillance on the 26th floor had been dismantled, leaving the entire level silent as still water. Suddenly, the elevator doors opened with a sharp ding. A man and a woman carried a bruised and bloodied woman toward a room at the end of the hallway. A middle-aged woman carrying a luxury handbag urged impatiently, “Hurry! Faster! Mr. Edwin will be here any moment!” Hector Graham glanced disdainfully at the injured woman. “Mom, she’s covered in blood and wounds. Will Mr. Edwin even want her?” “Of course he will!” Helen Cooper raised an eyebrow. “This girl is the CEO of the Graham family’s company, she’s worth a fortune! Besides, Mr. Edwin has… peculiar tastes. He enjoys them bleeding!” Claire Graham sneered from the side. “Hmph, let’s see how proud Jolene will be now! A rich girl turned trash! Disgusting!” Jolene Graham, barely conscious, had a flushed face. Blood smeared her brow and mouth, and her body was covered in injuries. Three fingernails on her right hand had been torn off, leaving them raw and bloody. Hearing their conversation, Jolene frowned faintly, forcing her eyes open. With sudden strength, she kicked the woman hard in the waist and swung her elbow sharply into the man’s face. Driven by Jolene’s full force, Claire was sent flying several feet, her shoes slipping off mid-air. “Ah!” Hector clutched his dislocated jaw, howling in pain. Helen stumbled back several steps, exclaiming, “Hector! Grab her! Quickly!” Clutching her left ribs, Jolene climbed to her feet and barefooted, staggered toward the elevator. After a full day and night of fighting, she had fallen into their trap and been drugged. Her uncle was hospitalized, her younger brother sent to Pryton, and Trevor Martin had left for rural tree planting a month ago. Helen’s timing had been perfect! That old man, Edwin Cooper, was already sixty-three, with grandchildren running around, yet still fixated on such disgraceful pursuits. Helen, once a housekeeper for the Coopers, had cunningly worked her way into the Graham family, transforming from a nobody into someone addressed as “Mrs. Graham.” Her ambition to seize control of the family had been apparent for years. Offering Jolene to Edwin was merely a way to use the Cooper family’s influence as leverage against the Grahams. Years had passed, but some habits never changed. Jolene stumbled toward the elevator, step by faltering step. Helen lunged to grab her. “You wretched girl! Still so defiant when you’re about to die!” Despite the pain, Jolene gritted her teeth, turned with the momentum, and slapped Helen hard across the face. “Ah!” The woman was flung backward. Hector, holding his jaw, charged forward. Jolene, thinking fast, pressed the elevator button with one hand and grabbed a fire extinguisher with the other, swinging it with all her might at Hector’s head. Clang! “Hector!” Claire shouted. “Hector!” Helen cried out. The elevator doors opened just in time. Jolene dashed inside and quickly closed the doors behind her. Claire, supporting the bloodied Hector, stomped anxiously. “Mom, what do we do?” Helen pulled out her phone and gritted her teeth. “We can’t let her escape! With Madam Alice, Benedict, and the Martin family all away, this is the best chance! Even if we don’t give her to Mr. Edwin, she can’t get out alive!” She dialed a number fiercely. “She escaped! Block the hotel exits and search every floor!” Guessing there would be a blockade outside, Jolene pressed the button for every floor, getting off at the 25th. At midday, the lounge area was sparsely populated. Jolene’s body trembled violently from the drugs, her steps faltering. After only a few steps, dizziness overwhelmed her. Leaning against the wall, she panted heavily. Jolene, you cannot fall. If you give up, what will happen to the Graham family? To Uncle Benedict and Jasper?
