Chapter 61 My Wife Should Come With Me In Calling You Aunty
Joyce had never met Debbie Nathan before. When she married Wilson Zoha, Debbie Nathan did not attend their wedding due to her overseas commitments. However, the true reason remains unknown. It is common knowledge that Wilson is the least favored son of the Zoha family. Even his own biological father, Evans Zoha, only made a brief appearance on their wedding day, let alone his stepmother.
Joyce Albert bit her lip, observing the two individuals slowly approaching her. She was unsure whether to move forward or backward, so she remained in the same place, unsure of what to do.
“Oh, I forgot to introduce you, this is the wife of Wilson, Joyce.” Yohanna’s slightly mocking voice echoed in Joyce’s ears as the two approached.
Upon hearing this, Joyce felt a penetrating gaze fixated on her, as if scrutinizing her with sharpness and curiosity.
It is widely known that Wilson’s stepmother, Debbie, is a prominent figure in the Nathan family. Furthermore, Wilson Zoha’s biological mother, who is Evans Zoha’s legitimate wife, already has children. Naturally, her approach must be unconventional. No one could remain calm under such intense scrutiny, especially considering Joyce’s distant relationship with Debbie. This made her uncomfortable, and she longed to escape from this situation immediately.
After a prolonged silence, Debbie finally spoke, her voice soft yet commanding, “Are you the wife of Wilson?”
Joyce remained silent for a moment before nervously nodding and responding, “Yes.”
As Joyce spoke, Yohanna snorted dismissively and remarked, “Naturally, she is not someone from the upper class. She doesn’t even understand basic politeness, just like a piece of wood, unaware of how to greet her mother–in–law who is present.”
Upon hearing Yohanna’s words, Joyce clenched her fists. She hadn’t considered addressing Debbie as “mother,” as the term seemed to get stuck in her throat. Calling her “mother” felt inappropriate, considering she was a stranger to Joyce, and the relationship between Wilson and Debbie was also distant.
Debbie didn’t mind as much as Yohanna did. She gently patted Yohanna’s hand and whispered, “Yohanna, don’t scare my second daughter–in–law. She has just met me for the first time, so it’s only natural that she still sees me as a stranger. She didn’t address me, and I can’t blame her.”
“Mom, you’re too kind. What does meeting someone for the first time have to do with not understanding basic politeness? Some people, even at this stage, still refuse to budge. I’m the one who worries about them.” Yohanna continued to speak, not forgetting to give Joyce a disdainful glance,
“You are quite calculating,” Debbie remarked, looking at Yohanna with a peculiar expression. Despite her tone, there was a hint of indulgence towards Yohanna.
It was evident to everyone that this mother–in–law and daughter–in–law duo, one pretending to be good and the other bad, were intentionally making Joyce uncomfortable.
Joyce tightly clenched her hands by her sides. Although she was unhappy, she knew she had to politely greet these two individuals. She mustered the courage to open her mouth, but before she could speak, her words were interrupted by a cold voice, “Aunt Debbie, apologize for forgetting to inform my wife of how she should address you. I hope someone as mature as you wouldn’t mind such matters.”
The person who spoke was Wilson who had seemingly anneared out of nowhere

He was dressed in a blue pinstriped suit, with his right hand wrapped in a thick layer of white gauze. Despite his slightly pale complexion, he remained handsome and charming. The corners of his mouth formed a faint smile, and his eyes exuded depth. He gazed directly at Debbie, who stood not far away.
Debbie’s misty gaze flickered, and she immediately smiled, saying, “How could I mind such things, Wilson? You’re still injured. Why have you come out and not returned to rest? I can’t protect someone who neglects their own well–being.” Debbie glanced at Joyce as she spoke.
At that moment, Joyce was completely oblivious to Debbie’s gaze. From the moment Wilson spoke, her eyes never left him. It was clear that they hadn’t seen each other for more than a night, yet she felt that Wilson had become thinner. Upon closer inspection, his beard seemed sparser, and his eyes appeared slightly tired, as if he hadn’t slept enough.
Seeing Wilson in that state, Joyce, who had been determined to distance herself from him, couldn’t control the pain in her heart. Moreover, his words just now, defending her, made Joyce even more sorrowful.
He still referred to her as his wife.
He didn’t blame her? Or… did her rejection last night not matter to him?
The more Joyce pondered, the more anguish she felt. She wanted to avert her gaze from Wilson’s figure, but she couldn’t tear her eyes away. It wasn’t until he slowly turned his head that their eyes met.
Unsure if it was an illusion, Joyce thought she saw a pained expression in Wilson’s eyes, but it quickly transformed into an abyss of darkness.
Wilson approached Joyce, naturally placing his hand on her shoulder, and softly said, “Joyce, since you are married to me, you should accompany me. Quickly greet Aunt Debbie.”
Joyce was momentarily stunned but quickly regained her composure. Following Wilson’s instruction, she greeted, “Aunt Debbie.”
On the other side, Debbie’s face turned pale. After a while, she managed to suppress her anger and let out a soft sigh.
“Brother, Mother and I came specifically to see you. We’ve been here for a while. You should let us sit in your ward.” Yohanna, who witnessed Debbie being insulted, finally couldn’t hold her tongue any longer.
Wilson didn’t spare Yohanna a single glance. Holding Joyce’s shoulders, he walked straight to the ward. When they reached the door, he pretended to apologize, saying, “Oh, sister–in–law, Aunt Debbie, H apologize. Hospital Hope has been quite crowded lately, so they assigned me a rather small ward. There are already guests inside, and with my wife, there might not be enough space. Let’s come again tomorrow.”
