Chapter 23
His mother wavered at Reed’s conviction. “Scarlett claims she tampered with the protection runes. She’s willing to let the moon seers verify the cub’s bloodline after birth.”
Reed felt his world crumble. He knew Scarlett’s nature – she wouldn’t have endured two
months in Duke’s den without absolute certainty. This cub was her only escape route.
The debate over the unborn cub sparked new conflict between Reed and the Sullivan Alphas. He insisted the cub couldn’t be his and demanded termination. But his father, already disgusted by his recent behavior, ordered the pregnancy preserved until bloodline verification could be performed.
With the Elder Alpha’s protection, Scarlett finally escaped her torment. Though not welcomed into the pack house, she was moved to a secured healing den with full care.
Reed, unable to challenge his parents‘ Alpha authority but desperate for an outlet, lashed out at his pack brothers.
Then, at his lowest point, news of Winter surfaced. A pack brother studying in Lunaris mentioned seeing someone matching her description at the Academy.
The news energized Reed’s wolf. He immediately booked a flight, ready to chase her scent.
But his pack brothers held him back. “The cub must be dealt with first! Even if Winter forgives your betrayal, she’ll never accept you with another she–wolf’s cub in the picture!”
The truth hit him like silver. Reed’s momentary joy turned to ash.
Forcing his wolf to calm, he listened to his brothers‘ suggestions before deciding to handle it
himself.
At the healing den, the guards blocked him until his mother, hearing his supposed acceptance of waiting for bloodline verification, granted him entry.
The door crashed open. Scarlett’s smile vanished at his scent, terror replacing it.

she stumbled backward, voice trembling. “The cub is yours! I swear by the Moonr
Seeing her weakened state, Reed felt nothing but cold purpose. He stalked forward, driving
her into a corner.
Each step brought him closer not to Scarlett, but to Winter. “The cub’s bloodime doesn’t matter anymore. Because neither of you will see another moon rise. Your schemes end here, Scarlett. Unless death claims me first, you’ll never have a place in my pack”
Scarlett, recognizing the murderous intent in his wolf, reached for her phone.
Reed snatched it away, throwing it through the window. Her scream pierced the air before he dragged her into the inner chamber.
Too weak to fight, she hit the wall hard, curling around her belly protectively.
But Reed showed no mercy, his strikes targeting her womb with deadly precision.
As dark blood pooled beneath her, Scarlett broke. The torture in Duke’s den, the fresh wounds over old, the carefully planned escape – all her suffering and shattered hopes overwhelmed her.
She looked up at her attacker, hatred burning in her eyes like wildfire.
Her raw fury only fed Reed’s frenzy. Satisfaction coursed through him as he studied the blood on his hands, his smile turning feral.
“Hate me? You brought this on yourself!”
Those words pushed Scarlett past sanity’s edge. Consumed by vengeance, one thought blazed in her mind:
If she was going to the darkness, she’d drag him down with her.
