Chapter 16
“Alpha, we spoke with Julia Crescent. She says the mate bond was arranged by her parents. She won’t defy pack tradition and withdraw. What now?”
Reed’s wolf stirred with dark intent, his eyes flashing red. “If she won’t listen to reason,
she’ll learn the hard way.”
His pack brothers felt their wolves shrink back at his tone. “The Crescents are powerful in Lunaris territory, Alpha. What are you planning?”
Reed’s gaze swept over them before changing the subject. “Where’s Scarlett?”
The pack members exchanged uneasy glances. “We’d have to ask Duke…”
Reed, needing an outlet for his rage, decided to see for himself. They followed him to Duke’s private chamber at the Shadow Den.
Duke greeted them with an obsequious smile. “Alpha Sullivan, I’ve brought the she–wolf as
requested.”
He pushed forward a trembling figure. Scarlett was emaciated, her exposed skin mottled
with bruises. She couldn’t meet Reed’s eyes, her voice quivering with terror.
“A–Alpha…”
A month had transformed the once–stunning she–wolf into this broken creature. Only Reed
remained unmoved.
His eyes, cold with hatred, regarded her with disgust. “Weren’t you so eager to climb pack
ranks? Found any powerful mates this month?”
The familiar voice sent ice through Scarlett’s veins. Remembering the brutality she’d endured from wolves indulging their darkest urges, she backed away, her voice shrill.
“Please, I want nothing. Just let me go, I beg you!”

She fell to her knees, forehead hitting the floor repeatedly.
Keed watched the blood appear on her forehead without emotion. His hands clenched.
“Let you go? Winter left because of you. Now I’m being forced to mate a stranger. Your suffering is merely payment for your sins!”
Mental anguish finally broke Scarlett’s restraint. Clutching her chest, she howled her bitter
truth.
“She left because of YOU! Even without my messages, she knew about your infidelity. She
would have left anyway!”
The room fell silent.
Reed seized her jaw, his Alpha rage burning. “What did you say?”
“You brought this on yourself! Can’t control your urges, then blame me? No wonder Winter
rejected you!”
Her desperate mockery struck Reed’s deepest wound.
His control snapped. His claws descended.
Her agonized screams filled the chamber.
When Reed finally stopped, he cleaned the blood from his hands and walked out, leaving
one command:
“Show no mercy to those who won’t repent.”
