Soon after Fiona left, a heavy rain poured down from the clear fight sky. Shakira sat by the window, watching the trees in the yard sway wildly in the storm. She was lost in thought and didn’t even notice when Walter showed up behind her.
“Thinking about Mrs. Banks?” asked Walter.
Shakira lifted her head, with her eyes calm and serene.
Walter held her shoulders in a comforting silence. “Don’t overthink it; it’s not your concern,” said Walter.
“I just find it all a bit sad,” replied Shakira.
Shakira turned her gaze back, staring at the view of the yard. Last year, to make it easier for kittens to climb, Levi had a row of new saplings planted there.
The wind and rain were strong now, but the sturdy trees stood like a protective wall, shielding the little saplings from the
storm.
Shakira mumbled. “Mrs. Banks treated Fiona like her pride and joy, giving her all the love and care she had. She never thought she’d end up in such a predicament because of her.”
Walter looked at her face from the side, and for some reason, felt that this usually carefree woman now seemed sorrowful. His heart was slightly moved.
He couldn’t help but think of the Nelson family. She was always seen as a burden there and never received any favoritism from her family.
Meanwhile, Fiona enjoyed all this, turning the easily received affection into a weapon to hurt her family. It was truly sad.
“Love can make someone confident and strong, but spoiling can lead to blindness and destruction. Mrs. Banks‘ way of loving was wrong,” Walter said calmly.
“Maybe, but I just feel so helpless in the end,” said Shakira.
Shakira thought of something, rested her head on his shoulder, and curiously asked, “Why didn’t you honor her last wish?”
Walter’s expression darkened a bit, and he asked in annoyance, “Do you want me to agree?”
“Well, it’s just that the dead deserve respect,” replied Shakira.
“So what?” Walter replied openly, “There’s no way I’m tying myself to Fiona because of some supposed last wish.”
“That would be unfair to you and Fiona. Also, it is unfair to me.”
As he spoke, Walter pressed his thumb on her slender wrist, suggesting a hint of punishment.
“What, do you want me to agree with her?” asked Walter.
“No way,” replied Shakira.
Shakira broke free and grabbed his large hand, imitating his actions to press on his wrist. But due to his size, she couldn’t manage with one hand, so she used both to hold on.
“I was listening by the door. If you had agreed with her, I’d have packed up and left right away,” said Shakira.
“You little thing, thinking of running away?” said Walter.

Walter leisurely raised mr eyebrow and easily trapped both of he hands in his grasp.
“Hmph, if I wanted to, there’s no way you’d be able to find me.” Shakira boasted proudly.
Walter’s eyes darkened, and he suddenly lifted her chin and kissed her.
“No matter where you run off to, I’ll still bring you back,” said Walter.
The sound of the rain hitting the window suddenly woke Xanthe from her sweet slumber.
Xanthe thought, ‘Shakira’s acupuncture skills must be amazing. sleep so soundly!
Even after being woken up, she didn’t feel sleepy or uncomfortable; instead, she felt mentally refreshed. If it weren’t for the loud rain, she could have slept soundly until morning.
She got up to close the window, climbed back into bed to turn on her bedside lamp, and picked up her phone to browse a bit before sleeping.
Xanthe finally saw the voice message Eve sent her a few hours ago, sounding soft and gentle. “Xanthe, are you tired from work? Have you been getting enough rest lately?”
Eve added, “Tomorrow is Sunday. If you’re free, I’d like to invite you to see a musical. If you find it boring, you can ask that rascal Sean to go with you.”
Xanthe was lost for words.
Eve clearly has ulterior motives.
Remembering she had accepted the check, she typed: [Auntie Eve, I’m free tomorrow. I can go out with Sean.]
After thinking it over, she honestly confessed. [When it comes to a musical, I might fall asleep. How about choosing something else?]
It was not that Xanthe lacked self–discipline. It was just musicals were so sleep–inducing.
Back then when Enrique started earning decent money, his first thought was to instill some refined tastes in the family. He took her to all sorts of high–end parties and musicals.
The result was either getting drunk on cocktails or falling asleep in the best VIP seats in the theater.
Enrique knew genetics were deeply ingrained and unchangeable, so he gave up the struggle and let her do whatever made her happy.
Xanthe, being quite bold, was mainly concerned about affecting Eve’s reputation. Eve was so gentle and kind to her and was her financial supporter, so she had great respect for her.
It was almost midnight and Eve was still awake. She quickly replied with a voice message. Her tone was happy and excited. “Alright. have fun wherever you want to go.”
Xanthe obediently replied: [Thanks, Auntie Eve. It’s getting late, you should go to bed early. Good night.]
Eve laughed and sent her a “Good night” in return. Xanthe exited the chat, letting out a big sigh of relief.
Holding her phone, she thought for a moment and suddenly came up with a plan.
She sent Sean a message about meeting up the next day and also messaged Shakira to ask if she wanted to bring Mr. Lopez along for some fun.

Shakira was surprised and asked, “Are you sure you want to bring Walter?”
“Don’t worry. I’m not trying to be the odd one out. Sean is coming too; we can all hang out together.
When Shakira saw these words, she was a bit confused. She thought, ‘I, Walter, Xanthe, and Sean going out together?
Just thinking about that group seemed kind of strange.
She thought about it and asked Walter for his opinion.
Even the usually composed Walter was surprised by the idea.
Seeing his expression made Shakira chuckle. “Maybe I’ll just say no to Xanthe.”
“Let’s go as well,” replied Walter.
“Huh? Seriously?” asked Shakira.
Walter tapped her nose and said, “We haven’t tried this kind of date before; it might be fun to try.”
Shakira smiled helplessly. “Alright, alright, should I let Xanthe know?”
“Yeah.”
Xanthe was overjoyed when she got the approval message. This was a perfect chance to both meet her dating goal and make Sean give up on Shakira. It was only Xanthe who could come up with such a clever plan.
Xanthe had already put the afternoon’s events behind her and was happily thinking about how to have fun the next day.
In the apartment with a large open–plan space downtown, Yvette was soaked to the skin and opened the door using her fingerprint.
She angrily tossed her high heels and complained. “What on earth couldn’t you say over the phone and insist I coming in this heavy rain? Do you want me to catch a cold?”
Jessie quickly grabbed a dry towel. “Oh dear, dry off quickly so that you don’t catch a chill.”
Yvette yanked the towel and flopped onto the couch with a huff, not caring that she soaked the leather. “Out with it already.” Lago said mysteriously, “Didn’t you ask me to have someone keep an eye on Shakira? Do you know who she went to meet?”
