Chapter 300
Seeing her son looking so clueless, Eve suddenly realized why he was still single despite his good looks.
She thought, ‘What’s the point of being sharp at work if his mind is blank when it comes to romance? How is he supposed to win a girl’s heart like that?‘ Eve rubbed her temples and let out a deep sigh.
On the other side, Lucy couldn’t hear their conversation, so she scanned the room with her eyes.
The luxurious suite at Rosewood Hotel, which cost a hundred thousand a night, featured alabaster marble floors and a dining table with a surface costing tens of thousands according to some online videos she had seen.
The floor–to–ceiling windows behind the sofa and the lavish decorations from luxury brands all displayed extravagance.
This was the kind of life Lucy never dared to dream of. Yet here it was, suddenly within her reach.
Lucy thought, ‘I’m prettier than Xanthe and way more agreeable. Why should I have less than her? Just because she was born into a rich family with a dad who knows how to make money?
‘As long as I find a man who can earn more money, I can live more freely than Xanthe!‘
Those long–hidden greedy desires, buried deep in her heart, began to grow wildly now that they had a glimmer of hope.
Sean stood up from where he was, and Lucy quickly hid her little thoughts, standing obediently in place with a serene smile on her face, looking at Eve. Eve’s eyes subtly swept over Lucy’s face before pulling away.
She snorted, “If you don’t like blind dates, then I’m too lazy to find a match for you. Do whatever you want.”
Sean gave a deep bow. “Mom, you are so wise!”
Eve glared at him and then turned to Lucy. “Ms. Sullivan.”
Lucy quickly responded, “Mrs. Reynolds, you can just call me Lucy.”
Eve kept a distant attitude. “Ms. Sullivan, you are just here at your cousin’s request to help out. You don’t really know Sean, so there’s no need to be so familiar.”
Lucy’s expression froze, and she was visibly awkward and embarrassed.
Eve showed little concern for protecting Lucy’s dignity, instructing the man in black to escort her out, and then she got up to walk to her room. Sean didn’t linger either, striding outside as well.
Lucy felt a panic in her chest and quickly followed. “Mr. Reynolds, I…”
Sean turned back with an impatient frown. “Didn’t I give you money? Why are you following me? Just take a cab home on your own.”
Lucy watched the elevator doors close in front of her, pinching her palm hard, her gaze turning cold with unwillingness.

-The next day, Shakira had just arrived at her cubicle when Benton announced that everyone should meet in the conference room. As an intern, Shakira sat in the back row. Shortly after, Quincy, Larry, and Rachel followed the three leaders into the
room.
Larry and Rachel casually took the empty seats beside her, while Quincy just glanced at them and went straight to the position behind the main seat in the second row.

Shortly after Charles hurried in, Quincy promptly stood up to pull out a chair for him.

His attentive gesture caught Benton’s eye, who gave a half–smile and joked with the leader of the second team, David Harris, “David, your intern sure knows the ropes well.”
Quincy cracked a smile, but David’s face turned serious. He couldn’t stand people like Benton, who never worked hard and only knew how to butter people up, and he wasn’t too impressed with Quincy’s little schemes either.
Charles started the meeting. “Time is limited. Let’s move quickly. Each team gives a quick update on this week’s progress.”
The team leaders took turns giving brief reports. When they finished, Charles turned to Benton, “How’s Communication with Norpa Technology going? The Research Department is still waiting for our draft proposal.”
Benton said, “They just finished their meeting yesterday, but I haven’t received the latest updates yet…”
Benton quickly looked at Maris, who felt a bit guilty. “I assigned the new intern to take care of the meeting notes and recording updates.”
Now, everyone’s eyes were on Shakira. Quincy looked on, clearly enjoying the moment, waiting for Shakira to embarrass herself. It was only her first day, and she was already in such a spotlight. Surely, she wasn’t ready for this.
Shakira stood up, took out a document from the folder she had brought, and handed it directly to Benton.
“I’ve prepared all the minutes from yesterday’s meeting in a document, but due to limited time, there’s only one copy available right now,” said Shakira.
As soon as Benton received it, his boss, Charles, said, “Let me take a look.”
Benton held it with both hands as he handed it over, but couldn’t help saying, “Mr. Gordon, the newcomer might not have done it perfectly. Should I review it myself and report back to you later?”
“Oh, Benton, I almost thought you were protecting your subordinate. You are not taking it seriously yourself and trying to cram at the last minute,” David said with a mocking tone.
Benton was so angry that he glared at David twice.
Charles opened the document to the first two pages.
Everyone in the conference room had different expressions. Beside her, Rachel and Larry looked worried about Shakira, while most others were waiting to see the drama unfold, especially David, who was eager to watch the show.
David thought, ‘Yesterday, when we were vying for the interns, Benton said it was a crucial project. But now he didn’t go himself and sent his subordinates instead. Any minor mistake, and he’s in trouble!‘
Charles’s brows knitted tighter and tighter. He lifted his head with intensity in his eyes.
He stared directly at Shakira. “Are you saying you completed this document by yourself?”
To the people there, it seemed like he was about to start an interrogation.
Without hesitation, Shakira replied, “Yes.”
Charles nodded, closed the file, and handed it back to Benton.
Benton was anxious. “Mr. Gordon, I…”
“What?” Charles snorted. “You’re lucky that you chose a talented intern.”
Benton, expecting a reprimand, was completely stunned. “Huh?”

He quickly opened the document Shakira had prepared, skimmed through it fast, and immediately started grinning with joy.
Benton praised, “Wow, Shakira, you did a great job with this summary. Not only did you organize everything, but you also connected it with the previous progress in a detailed overview. I get the general idea at just a glance!”
Benton was beaming with pride. “Impressive! You’re a promising talent. As expected of Crescentville University’s top student!”
Shakira remained calm and composed. “Thank you for your praise.”

Benton patted her on the shoulder, inviting her to sit, and noticed the envious looks of David and others. He felt even more smug. “The last intern this outstanding was Ms. Palmer, who came from a branch office back in the day, right?”
David sneered, “Ms. Palmer is one of the fastest–rising stars in our company. Benton, you’re really boosting your own image
here.”
Benton leisurely sat back in his chair with a chuckle, boasting openly, “Young people have endless potential. She’s definitely better than the intern in your team who just does waiter tasks.”
David was rendered speechless.
So was Quincy.
