Chapter 296
Kyle towered over her, well over six feet, his cool, detached gaze sweeping down as if to mock her for having the audacity to show up. Berry’s face twitched with nervousness and panic she couldn’t hide. “Mr. White.”
Kyle spoke coldly, “Why are you in Lopez Group?”
Berry almost bit her tongue. “I’m interning in Norpa Technology. HR said they were short–staffed here, so they transferred me over.”
“Oh, really?” Kyle’s tone was indifferent, as usual. He always treated everyone and everything with a gentle demeanor that made it impossible for people to guess his true emotions.
“Norpa Technology has worked with Lopez Group for many years. I’ve attended their biddin member of the Lopez Group is top–notch in terms of skills. And you…” He let his words han incomplete.

But Berry felt deeply humiliated. She thought, ‘Even Kyle looked down on me. Why? I am part of the White family too, ever if I am just a branch member. Can I really be considered less important than Shakira, an outsider?‘
Berry was seething with frustration, yet she couldn’t bring herself to confront Kyle. As the presumptive heir to the White family, he wielded the influence to make her family’s life within the clan a living nightmare with just a single utterance.
She hung her head low, her voice trembling. “Maybe they thought students from Crescentville University wouldn’t be too bad, and since they couldn’t find anyone suitable on short notice, they decided to bring me over…”
Kyle stared at her for a long time before moving aside. “Since you’re here, just focus on your work and don’t mess with people who are out of your league.” With this stern warning, Kyle walked away.
Left standing there, Berry clenched her fists in shame and anger.
She thought, ‘Do they look down on me? I am going to mess with her!‘ With her eyes reddened, Berry angrily picked up her phone to text Brian, only to find a message from him first.
Brian: [Ms. White, please come to the CEO’s office on the top floor.]
Berry almost dropped her phone. After quickly composing herself, she ran excitedly toward the elevator.
Brian waited by the elevator. As soon as Berry arrived, he guided her to the CEO’s office. Berry was so happy, her heart was racing and her emotions were all over the place.
“Brian, is Mr. Lopez asking for me?”
“Yes,” Brian confirmed with a nod.
Berry asked, “Why does Mr. Lopez suddenly want to see me? Is it…”
Brian said, “Ms. White, you’ll know once you go in.”
After Brian knocked on the door, he signaled for her to enter. Berry walked in nervously, and the first thing she noticed was the huge floor–to–ceiling glass, with a stunning view of downtown Crescentville below,
This kind of thrilling and intense feeling of standing at the top of power was something Berry had never experienced before. Walter saw her distracted and tapped on the desk. “Come, have a seat.”
Berry, both nervous and excited, slowly walked toward Walter. Looking at the man who owned everything in sight, she blushed. “Mr. Lopez…

Seeing Berry’s lovestruck expression, Walter couldn’t help but have a flash of disdain in his eyes. “When did you come back from Silverwave Bay, Ms. White?” he asked straight away.
Snapping out of her trance from Walter’s stunning face, Berry instinctively replied, “Yvette’s family and I returned on the same day, the night of the second day of New Year.”
Walter’s gaze deepened. On the day of the annual meeting, she was still in Silverwave Bay.
“Have you regained any memories recently?” Walter unexpectedly asked, startling Berry to her core.
“I…” Berry hesitated for a moment and answered vaguely. “Some pictures flash by now and then. I’m not sure what they are. Those pictures feel too unfamiliar, and I don’t know if they belong to my memories or something else…”
Seeing her avoid his eyes, Walter didn’t ask any more questions. He just reached out his ha phone.”

Once he checked the phone, he would know if it was Berry who logged into the software that night at Silverwave Bay.
Berry instantly panicked, her face turning a bit pale. “Mr. Lopez, that might not be a good idea.”
“Why? Is there something there I shouldn’t see?” asked Walter.
“Mr. Lopez, you have been so good to me. Of course, I’m willing to share everything with you, but…” Berry’s pupils trembled, like a scared bird, cautious and guarded.
Berry continued, “Until my memory is fully restored, there are some things I want to figure out by myself. I don’t want to have any misunderstandings with Mr. Lopez.”
“Alright then.” Walter glanced at the phone she was holding tightly. “You can leave now.”
Berry was surprised. “Mr. Lopez, you asked me here… just to see my phone?”
“Nothing much,” Walter said curtly. By this time, Brian had already opened the door, waiting for her to leave. Berry felt disgruntled and didn’t have a clue what Walter was up to, but she complied and left.
As she turned to leave, her eyes caught a glimpse of the photo frame on Walter’s desk, making her widen her eyes in disbelief. Brian had already approached her. “Ms. White, please.
Berry bit her lower lip and left without looking back. No one noticed the intense jealousy brewing in her eyes.

Shakira and Xanthe went to the cafeteria together. Xanthe, who had been feeling down all morning, suddenly perked up when they reached the cafeteria, which seemed to have dishes from all over the world.
She craned her neck, looking around. “Oh my gosh! The cafeteria here is amazing. They have every type of cuisine, even delicacies from different countries. And wow, bird’s nest and caviar for just 30 dollars? They’re living the high life!”
Xanthe grabbed Shakira’s hand. “I’ve made up my mind. During my internship, I’m going to do something major.”
Shakira lifted an eyebrow. “Oh?”
Xanthe said, “I’m going to start a vlog showing what I eat at work every day. I bet I won’t repeat a meal in three months. People online will be so envious.”
Shakira thought, ‘That does sound quite ambitious.
The two of them took seats by the window. Xanthe eagerly pulled out her phone to take some pictures. “Shakira, how’s your department?”
