Chapter 8
“No, Chloe can’t die. I still want to be a rich housewife…” Trick Randon was on my back, coughing up blood as she muttered,
“My daughter, my daughter is a lady of fortune, I–I’m the mother–in–law of a rich family!”
Things happened too quickly. By the time I understood what had occurred, Spencer had been disarmed and cuffed. He was still struggling and shouting in his death throes.
And Trick Randon… was already lifeless,
I was taken away for questioning, and by the time everything was cleared up, I left the police station in the early hours of the morning.
Staring up at the moon, I felt a deep sense of confusion. Trick Randon had been kind to me, but that couldn’t erase the fact that she’d abused Sonborn.
She had been kind to me because she wanted to step on me to live a better life.
For that fleeting dream of a good life, she had ultimately sacrificed her life.
“Big sister, what are you thinking about?”
Sonborn gently draped a coat over my shoulders. “Big sister, it’s all over now. The good days are just beginning for us.”
Her words shattered the gloom in my heart, and I laughed through my tears as I hugged her. “Yes, our good days are here.”
The next day, we packed our bags and began a nationwide road trip. As the car hit the highway. Sonborn pulled out her new ID.
She had changed her name to Fendi Lunar, hoping that the future would be as free as the wind.
“I changed my surname because you’re a Lunar, big sister. You’ve always been my only family.”
“Big sister, if it weren’t for you protecting me all those years, Trick Randon would have killed me by
now.”
“You don’t need to feel guilty. Everything the Lunar family taught you, you taught me. I know all the kindness you’ve shown m
