Chapter 4
After we got together, Gavin was attentive in every way, and I gradually fell in love with him.
But I believed in keeping personal and professional lives separate. Love was love, and work was work.
I never gave him promotions or raises because of our relationship.
As a leader, I had to set a good example and maintain clear boundaries.
Then came the car accident after we got married.
I was left paralyzed, spiraling into despair.
I handed over the company to Gavin to manage in my place.
Now it seems it was all part of his scheme.
I had misjudged him–fallen in love with a manipulative scoundrel
Tonce again insisted Gavin leave.
This time, it infuriated him.
Tears streamed down his face.
“So what now, Scarlett? Are you really such a cold–hearted woman?”
“When you were paralyzed, I never left your side. I didn’t care about the ridicule from others, calling me a freeloader, just to stay with you!”
“So now that you’re better, you want to kick me out, is that it?”
Hearing his baseless accusations, I let out a cold laugh.
“When I was paralyzed, you never left my side? Are you sure it wasn’t out of sheer disgust and reluctance that you took care of me?”
“And besides, you know perfectly well who’s responsible for my paralysis.”
At that, Gavin’s tears stopped instantly.

He stared at me, feigning ignorance. “What do you mean by that?”
Without hesitation, I ripped apart his facade.
“Gavin, stop pretending.”
“I overheard the conversation you had with your friend in the study. The car accident that left me paralyzed–wasn’t it your doing?”
My tone was firm and certain.
Hearing this, Gavin visibly panicked.
His face turned pale as he stumbled over an explanation.
“Scarlett, it’s not like that. I did all of this just to keep you by my side. You’re too extraordinary, too far out of my league. I was afraid you’d look down on me, that you’d leave me, so I wanted to dim your light a bit–to make you rely on me.”
His absurd reasoning made me laugh in disbelief.
“Gavin, stop making excuses for your greed.”
you wanted me paralyzed so you could take my money, strip me of my power in the company, and seize the business I’ve spent years building…”
My voice grew colder as I spoke.
But before I could finish, Gavin interrupted me, shouting in desperation.
“That’s not true! It’s not true at all! I love you–I really do!”
Watching him lose all sense of reason, I felt exhausted. I no longer wanted to argue.
“Enough. Take your belongings and leave. There’s nothing more to say between us.”
Gavin, his eyes red, stubbornly refused.
“We’re married–husband and wife. This house is marital property, and you can’t just kick me out.”
flis voice trembled as he spoke, his entire body shaking.
Hearing his thinly veiled threat, I raised an eyebrow.

ally, I didn’t want things to get so ugly, considering the years we’d spent together.
But now, it was time to settle this once and for all
I stared directly into Gavin’s eyes.
“Do you think the tampering you did with the car was flawless? I’ve already gathered all the evidence. If you don’t sign the divorce papers, you’ll be heading to prison.”
When I first discovered Gavin’s attempt to harm ine……
1 had already privately hired someone to investigate the so–called truth from back then. As saying goes, perseverance pays off–there was clear evidence on the car’s dash–cam.
As I spoke, I gave my secretary a subtle look.
Understanding the signal, my secretary handed the divorce papers to Gavin.
Hearing my words, Gavin panicked instantly, falling heavily to his knees.
His hands trembled as he clutched at the hem of my pants.
“Scarlett, I don’t want to go to jail, and I don’t want a divorce either!”

out!”
But I kicked him away without hesitation, looking down at him with cold disdain.
“Gavin, do you really think I’m that stupid? After being deceived by you once, do you honestly think I’d give you another chance to fool me again?”
Standing nearby, Ellie finally spoke up.
She rushed to help Gavin up from the ground, then angrily snapped at me.
“How dare you treat Gavin like this? You were just a cripple, despised by everyone. If it weren’t for Gavin, who would have cared about you? All these years, he cooked for you, did your laundry, and massaged your legs every day. How can you be so heartless?”
I raised an eyebrow and retorted coldly.
“You think he’s so great? Then try being crippled yourself, try living with him when he has no money. Let’s see if you’ll still think he’s wonderful.”

And don’t think your little affair went unnoticed. The two of you had your fun under my
night, didn’t you? I didn’t expose you just to save you a shred of dignity, but don’t push your luck.”
“And Ellie, don’t forget how you knelt in gratitude when I offered to sponsor you. Don’t act like you don’t remember.”
At my words, Ellie’s face turned pale, her voice trembling.
“So… you knew all along about me and Gavin…”
